It's been a little light on questions this week, but I did receive one inquiry about head coach Todd Dodge's plans when it comes to playing any additional freshmen this season.

Dodge actually addressed that very topic yesterday.

Unless something unforeseen happens, quarterback Giovanni Vizza, linebacker A.J. Penson, wide receivers Sam Dibrell, Breece Johnson and B.J. Lewis and running back Micah Mosely will be the Mean Green's freshmen who will play this season.

There also appears to be a chance Kevin Ealey will play as well. He has played in just two games this season, so there still could be a chance that he could redshirt.

I have received a lot of questions about the rest of the freshman receivers and their status. At this point, it does not look like Marcus King, Sam Roberson or Evan Walker will play.

What's the rule for redshirting a player; how much can they play and still redshirt?

I thought the rule was that as soon as you played a down.....you could no longer redshirt.

And that, the only time that percentage of how much you have played comes into play....is if you're injured and going for a medical redshirt.

I may be wrong though.

It's funny I was thinking of asking TD this question last Monday night. I'll do it next Monday.

Straight from the NCAA :

The term "redshirt" is used to describe a student-athlete who does not participate in competition in a sport for an entire academic year. If you do not compete in a sport the entire academic year, you have not used a season of competition.
For example, if you are a qualifier, and you attend a four-year college your freshman year, and you practice but do not compete against outside competition
, you would still have the next four years to play four seasons of competition.

Each student is allowed no more than four seasons of competition per sport. If you were not a qualifier, you may have fewer seasons of competition available to you.
You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition.

Please contact the certifying institution or conference for additional information. You also may contact the NCAA membership services staff at 317/917-6222 if you have further questions.

C'Mon Brett , u should know this

How many threads can we post the reshirting rule in????

WOW....

I say go young and train these young guys in the system NOW....

Especially the WR's...you've already got 3 committed for next season, 2 who should be impact guys in Barrett and Brigham...and you've got a red-shirting Evan Fentriss waiting

dang i'd like to see Sam Roberson play, that dude is a beast

Roberson is a beast. Only problem is he is very "green" at running routes and learning the system. He is a big project that has up side, big time upside. If you have ever seen him, he runs inadequate routes and just never received any coaching at the 3A level. But boy does he have an upside.
