To provent identify theft after the death of an adult here are the steps you need to take:

1. Obituary...no home address, no month and day of birth..

2. Mail copies of death certificate to all 3 credit reporting bureaus..Equifax, Experian and TransUnion....and all credit cards to cancel accounts right after the death.

3. Contact your state department of motor vehicles to cancel any drivers license and prevent duplicates from being issued.

4. A few week after taking these measures run a credit report on the dead to ensure there's no suspicious activity...they are free.
