It's the actual members of the teams (minus football players) without their HS coaches (per UIL)

Didn't UNT used to host this or is that a different GAS? If so, why did we lose it to Lewisville?

Correct! There are several Great American Shootouts throughout the state with Denton being the largest and longest running. The tournaments are a product of Mike Kundstadt, founder of Texas Hoops.com.

This year alone, the spring tournaments were held at the IAD (Carrollton) March 31-April, At Baylor April 14-15, IAD (Carrollton) May 12-13. The Summer tournaments were in Carrollton May 26-28, Bryan/College Station June 1-3, Austin/Georgetown June 15-17 & Denton July 6-9th. The Denton tournament has grown so much that that also utilized the IAD in Carrollton in July. Unlike the games this Saturday, the Spring and Summer tournaments are totally AAU where the teams are comprised of kids from different teams with AAU coaches only.

Mike Kunstadt - Founder

Mike taught and coached basketball for 26 years. His greatest success was when his Corpus Christi Carroll team reached the Final 4 of the State Tournament. In his 29 years as a head coach of both Corpus Christi Carroll and Irving High School, he averaged 20 wins per season.

In 1988, he founded GREAT AMERICAN SPORTS, INC. which hosts GREAT AMERICAN SHOOT-OUTS, TEXAS HOOPS.COM AND TEXAS BASKETBALL REVIEW SCOUTING SERVICE. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in banking/finance along with his teacher's certification from Texas Tech. Mike is a Past President of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, served four terms on the Irving Independent School Board of Trustees and was Board President for two years.
