Let me preface this by saying my expectations for this season were very low.

BUT...

This was a winnable game tonight. FAU didn't have better talent. They have better coaches. They made adjustments at half time to slow our offense down and we did nothing to change our game plan. Is it possible to pump fake a few short passes to keep their DB's jumping our routes?!

Meager - He can't throw the deep ball and it is killing us. It's time to start the Vizza era. Please don't post the SMU stats for me either. SMU has one of the WORST defenses in the nation.

Attendance - Great turnout by students and alumni alike. I thought it was close to 20,000. A lot of new faces on the alumni side. I wonder if they will be back. The second half performance didn't win anyone over.

KUDOS TO THE DEFENSE - Best game of the year by far. The offense killed them in the second half as they just were wore down by being on the field most of the half.

Good to see Jamario back! I would like to see more of him.

Minnesota must be REALLY bad.

This was a tough loss as this game was there for the taking.

GMG!

It's hard to say. Were those the wrong plays or were they just not executed very well? I think that we lost that game on turnovers, not from being outcoached. The yardage was pretty even but they had one big offensive play and a bunch of big defensive plays....three picks and two blocked punts.

I was disappointed at the attendance. I didn't hear an official figure but my guess would be about 19,000. It was hardly a packed house as the DRC predicted.

I understand where you are coming from. If that is the case then Vizza should have been brought into the game.

The turnovers were big but our offense did NOTHING in the second half. We would have lost either way.

To me, what was so frustrating tonight was like you said - it was a winable game, and we blew it.

It is time to MOVE ON to the Vizza era - Meager CAN NOT get it done. He just can't.

Great game J-Mo.

We must not have been watching the same game.

This was the best game of the year by far only in that the Defense was going the wrong direction in 3rd gear rather than 5th gear. Being less awful than the first two games does not merit kudos.

I would say that the defense was played better last night than what I saw at SMU. Our offense's lack of ability to move the football in the ENTIRE second half I think played a role in the defensive play to some degree in the second half. But to say that our defense didn't look better than SMU, I think is a stretch.

Out coached? I would say "out executed". Two blocked punts? Some nice drives (even in the second half) but they ended with mistakes. You must have been watching a different game than I did. The defense played extremely well, especially given where FAU started some of their drives. The reason we lost this game is pretty simple, special teams breakdowns, turnovers and some untimely penaties that put the offense behind schedule as far as moving the chains in the second half. On the bright side, these things can be corrected. To win, it takes all three units doing their jobs. Finally, FAU had some good athletes, I thought their QB had a rocket of an arm and their defense was extremely athletic.

If I was disapponted in anything, it was the crowd. Not enough students, need more noise when the other team has the ball, lots left early (even before the game was out of reach), and pretty quiet the second half.

It's a work in process though, let's all keep practicing! We'll get better.

See you at Arkansas?

Ditto...

I also don't think we got out-coached, but Schnelly' does have a couple of NC's under his belt from his days at UM Hurricane harbor, so "seasoned" might be a better choice of words if we are to compare him with TDodge?

Coach Todd Dodge gives us an upside and a positive direction and we haven't always had that at UNT in recent decades.

BTW, would our 20,000 and some change last night have been a Top 3 SBC vs SBC team attendance record? The SBC and UNT will all get better as will attendance records.

I still defer to my below signature for those who want instant success in Denton, and even that in a vastly improved Sun Belt Conference. This is not the same SBC we all saw in its first 5 or so years of operation, folks.

I would not of thought it, but it did top the 2002 NMSU crowd of 20,064 by a few hundred, and that's with an extemely small visiting contingent unlike NMSU in the game for the 2002 SBC champioship.

Let the over reactions begin!

we were out coached

Hmmm, FAU's QB has is best two career games over the last two weeks so that must be all our coaches fault.

we can't go deep

Hall didn't have that big of an arm either. And it wasn't the the deep ball that was the problem it was decission making. Meager tried to force it when should thrown it away on 3 plays.

I hear you when you say he tried to force it, but what about SMU? Oh that's right, he tried to force 3 times there. In your third game of your JUNIOR year, you should know that you can't keep forcing things. Time for a change.

The defense wasn't perfect, but 14 of those points came straight from the blocked punts. Three interceptions give the other team 3 extra possensions to score while taking those three away from us. The defense improved by a huge amount from the first two games and thats why this game was a "winnable" game near the end.

If the defense had played the way they had earlier in the year, we would have been down 21+ at that point. A blown assignment on on deep coverage and two special team miscues gave FAU 21 of thier points.

I thought NT make some very good second half defensive adjustments. It seems to me in the first half that FAU picked up every 3rd and long and their receivers dropping passes stopped most of their drives. Other than the one long pass play in the second half, NT's defense played much better. The biggest problem for the defense was a very poor pass rush. On that long td, the FAU QB took forever and no NT players even got close.

Unfortunately, FAU adjustments were better and NT could do nothing offensively in the second half.

Hall may not have had that big of an arm but Scott Hall was a WINNER, he got the job done and did not make mistakes
