The pep rally was alright. The groups that performed (the band, dance team, Scrappy, some random rock band, etc.) did extremely well all around. RV and TD came up and gave some great pep talks, but the students generally we're very stagnant and boring. In fact, they seemed more hyped about the rock band than about our football players. At one point, RV even said "if you cheer, I'll give you these shirts!" What followed? Some very half-assed applause.

Don't get me wrong, there were a few (as there always will be) amped up, energetic fans. The problem is, they were few and far in between. A little disheartening for a diehard fan, but I personally had fun nonetheless! My little sister is in the band at UT, and I've gone to check out what their pep rallies are like and it's like night and day...a great goal for us to shoot for and surpass. Baby steps. In regard to our fan support, I think of the following saying: "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink...so make it thirsty." Give the people a reason to shout and scream, and they will come to these functions in hordes.

Attendance was a little marginal, but I didn't show up until around 9ish, so maybe most of the people left.

Hope that answers some questions.

Ya i got there about 9 and it was ok. Seemed just like a lot of freshman who live on campus. I almost felt like I was in high school again. I think it could get big but it needs more to it.

Wow....i like the negative attitude....NOT!

....some students were there as early as 6:30....and at 7:30 there were tons of students, kids & adults....but 8:00 it was packed!!!!

LOOK AT THE POSITIVES!!!!

This is the 2nd year the pep rallies have been around. There were way more people there than at last year's 1st pep rally v.s. SMU!

A HUGE SUCCESS!......free t-shirts, hot dogs, red-bull, NT Dancers, glow sticks, water bottles...every kind of giveaway you could imagine.

MISER played......(radio hits & good covers) (i know its not ACDC or INCUBUS)...but the school doesnt have $100,000 to spend on their pep rallies....It took a lot of hard work to fight for a band and not a dj or just a cover band......the students really enjoyed the band...the promo table was sold out....for the first 1.5 hours you could barely see the grass! Todd Dodge came out with seniors/players (jamario thomas, brandon jackson...& 5 others) they all spoke & so did Rick Villareal.

There was a step show! NT Dancers & The Band played and the crowd practiced cheers for the game.

I would say it was a huge success and definately not a flop.

I would like to hear some imput on how to make it better instead of the "it was ok attitude." I plan on seeing a possible record attendance game tomorrow & excited to see what Tailgating will be like in the new location. I also saw a lot of UNT shirts being worn this week and especially on Friday!

just my two cents...on clark park....definately an improvement from last year.

GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT THE HOOTERS!

I couldn't have summed it up any better than Trey. As a student, it's a little disheartening to hear alumni talking like that. The pep rally was a huge success as far as numbers and attendance was concerned. You can't solve all the problems over night. For now, we have several hundred people attending the rally. As our game improves, so will the school spirit.

This is NOT highschool. These students here have friends at different colleges, and they have different perspectives. The students here are not "all UNT, all of the time." We'd like them to be, but we're working hard to get people to stop wearing Texas t-shirts and hats. Tell me how to fix that, and I'll fix your mediocre pep rallies.

Finding a good original band (read: not a "random rock band") to play at the pep rally was an epiphany. SO many students came out to see the band, and then stayed for the pep rally portion. Many of them didn't seem to know how to react to the "pep" portion of the event. That will change. Don't call us quitters before we've begun.

See Emmitt about that one.

It's quite easy. Whenever you see someone wearing any garment from another University, you stomp the living sh*t out of them right in the middle of the union and make an example out of them. Then you stand over their bruised and bloody carcus and scream at the top of your lungs, "Hey you, fag boy in the A&M shirt, come here cuz your next.

Glad to see violence is still the answer after all these years

Okay, Miser was not bad. Their version of "Monster" gets played all the time on the Edge. I'd say that there was a good turnout compared to what I've seen in the past. The Dancers, Cheerleaders, and Scrappy were good. The captains of the team came out and spoke with Dodge (Weathers, J. Thomas, Mendoza, Holman, B. Jackson, and Chapman). Dodge said he wanted to see a packed house tomorrow "when we beat Florida Atlantic." I was kinda disappointed that they didn't do a mass give-away of the sweet FAU game shirts they had made. It would have been cool to have thousands wearing those shirts at the game. Oh well.

They handed out bright green glow necklaces, and it looked SWEET when everyone had them waving and twirling. I know this has been brought up before, but how cool would it be if EVERYONE in the crowd at Fouts busted these out in the 4th quarter after it's gotten dark. What a photo op! Has anyone looked into this? Does anyone else do this at their games?

The other big news from the rally...we have a new unified chant: Everyone yells MMMMMEEEEEEAAAAAANNNNNNN...G-R-E-E-N...GREEN! We practiced it 3 or 4 times. I think that for rhythm purposes it would have been better as: MMMMMEEEEAAAAAANNNNNNN...G-R-E-E-N MEAN GREEN! Ah well. Also, the Alumni side/student side NORTH...TEXAS chant is now: NORTH....TEXAS....MEAN...GREEN! They might have already changed that, I couldn't remember.

They also printed on the cups that were given away the CORRECT way to cheer during kickoffs: (talons raised) GOOOOOOOOO....MEAN! GREEN! (when ball is kicked). This sounds MUCH better than: GOOOOOOOO-AHHH or GOOOOOOO-UGH!

All in all, we had a good time.

What a genius idea. I guess now they will have to change their 'Traditions' link on their website to match the new chants.

Good report. I read somewhere that they had these last year, but this year was the first I have heard of them. I will definately have to come out to them in the future.

Those shirts came from Student Government. I only had cash on hand to make 600 of them. We were handing them out at the SGA tailgating tent, too. I'm making another one for the Louisiana-Monroe game. It was hard to figure out how to make fun of a Warhawk, but I think we pulled it off. I'll only have about 600 shirts again unless someone wants to donate some dough to the t-shirt fund. The shirt for Navy will be good, too. I'm trying to make more than 600 of those. I promise they won't say "Sink Navy."
