Portland State Locker Room Robbery

Portland State athletic director Torre Chisholm said that 30 players and three assistant coaches had money and other personal items stolen from the Vikings' locker room during Saturday's 35-24 victory over Sacramento State at PGE Park.

A spokesperson for the Portland Police Bureau said Monday afternoon that officers were gathering details of the incident and had not calculated an estimated value of the lost items, which included wallets, cell phones and personal music players. Any theft exceeding $750 would constitute a felony.

Chisholm said he hopes that between PGE Park's insurance and the NCAA's special assistance fund players and coaches can get reimbursed. He said the Vikings are working with stadium officials to improve locker room security before PSU's next home game on Oct. 6 against Northern Arizona.

"Obviously, we're disappointed, especially after a big win," Chisholm said. "The players handled it exceedingly well. I mean, they were obviously initially upset, but then realized these things happen. So, I'm hoping they didn't let it dampen their spirits too much."

PSU coach Jerry Glanville said the Vikings went "from the ultimate joy to disaster in a minute when we found out what happened."

Glanville said some of the players and coaches were scrambling Monday, trying to replace driver's licenses and other forms of identification before Friday when the Vikings are scheduled to fly to San Diego for Saturday's game against San Diego State.

"To get on an airplane, you've got to have an ID," Glanville said. "The coaching staff not being able to get on the plane may help us. But the players need to get on."

Big Sky honors: Vikings quarterback Brian White and linebacker Jordan Senn were named the Big Sky Conference's offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for their performances in Saturday's victory over the Hornets.

White, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound senior, completed 26 of 37 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for another score in his second start for the Vikings. White's 363 passing yards were the most by a Big Sky quarterback this season, and the most by a PSU quarterback since Joe Wiser threw for 392 yards against Nicholls State in 2003.

Senn, a 5-11, 225-pound senior, had a game-high 11 tackles and sealed the Vikings' first victory under Glanville when he intercepted a pass and returned it 76 yards for a touchdown with 30 seconds remaining. It was Senn's fourth career interception, and the first touchdown in 35 career games with PSU.

That was never explained as I remember the coaches being very pissed. For the life of me I cannot remember when this was? I was there so it seems late 80ish? Maybe the playoff game in '87? Anyone else remember when it was?

Rick

Of course, news hasn't leaked out about the Utah State locker room robbery the other day. Somebody stole all the playbooks and now they are trying to reconstruct the play from memory.
