Ya I wanted to go tonight but I had to coach late. What are soccer games like in terms of fans and stuff?

Obviously I haven't been in years...they were still playing on the field off of Bonnie Brae where intramurals are back when I was in school. I went to my fair share of games('96-01) back in the day you'd have maybe 100-150 fans or so at games. From what I've heard support has increased quite a bit since.

There was a great crowd at the game. The stands were pretty much full. I even took Boomer out and as I rolled in I had 5 people run up and tell me I couldn't fire. (I fired when we lit the tower). Way to go ladies, keep it up.

What people, and what was the reason?

Exactly! I'd have fired it anyway just to prove that I COULD do it. To paraphrase a quote from the great movie Animal House, "We can do anything we want. We're in College".

I say that all the time........my wife doesn't buy it.

I saw Boomer and was quite excited to see the support with the gear and all...however, we have a problem right now with the soccer field gestapo. There is a real wet blanket policy going on. You ready for this one..... we are being told (since last year) ...no umbrellas allowed!!! .....ostensibly is a safety risk, and ostensibly an "NCAA rule"..... this is not true, when challenged on that Sunday, it became pretty clear it is not really an NCAA rule, but boiling it down, basically a UNT rule (can anyone explain this further, the staff sure couldn't, they were operating in robot mode)...... In that regard, since there is such a great risk from an umbrella, I can only imagine the phobia that Boomer generated from its unexpected appearance at the gate.........next thing we will hear is that cheering and loud noise is a safety issue too, so as not to discriminate against Boomer....won't be long with policies like that we will see that 650 plus gate dwindle back down to that 100-150. There were a few really ticked off people in the heat on Sunday with no shade. Wait till we spring that one on the SBC folks at next years conference tourney........

Not for sure, but it may be a spillover from football. No umbrellas are allowed in Fouts. I believe that began with numerous complaints of umbrellas blocking the view of people behind the umbrella user.

As for being a safety issue, I'd bet far more people get poked in the eye with a finger than umbrellas. Should we not allow fingers? Maybe UNT thinks a terrorist will take over the stadium by using an umbrella as a weapon.

Animal House??? Are you sure about that?

I seem to remember a similar quote from Jaws, but it was "I can do anything; I'm the Chief of Police"

One of the original taglines for 'Animal House' was:

We can do anything we want. We're college students!

I don't know if it was an actual line in the movie.

No umbrellas is pretty standard at most outdoor stadium sporting events. Other than golf, I'm not sure where they are allowed, and yes, it is an issue to obstructing other's view.

The issue as presented was not about obstructing view, it was a safety concern!! And, for most of those who do use umbrellas at the soccer field (when they randomly have not enforced this), sit on the top row.

I wonder if it will be ok when in pours rains.......probably less of a safety risk at that time, what was I thinking.....

Other than golf, I'm not sure where they are allowed ......lets see, TV broadcasts appears to indicate football, baseball, other soccer venues including collegiate, except for UNT (you'll have to trust me on that one, been to a few). I'll let you know if they let them in at OU this weekend, if they do I'll issue a mass apology for whining.... ;)
