UNT Tuesday mailbag

The question of the day in the UNT mailbag came from VHM, otherwise known as the blog's mystery guest. I think this has just about become an official name for him or her.

Anyway, VHM was wondering who the Mean Green is recruiting as far as cornerbacks other than the ones listed on Rivals.com: Jarrett Ben, Devin Smith, John Shorter and David Cato. The truth is Rivals.com and the Top 100 lists that the major state newspapers carry are the best source for information when it comes to who a team is recruiting. Most college coaching staffs guard their list of recruiting targets like their playbooks. The recruiting Web sites and newspapers take the opposite approach and target the top players and keep in contact with them to find out which schools are offering them scholarships. Some Web sites even ask the players which assistant coaches are in charge of recruiting them.

I know. I know. That doesn't tell anyone anything they don't already know.

What I can tell UNT fans is Ben has already been on an unofficial visit to Denton and might be the best player among the Mean Green’s targets. There are several teams after Ben. He isn't the biggest guy at 5-10, but he is considered a solid prospect by several programs, including UNT.
