"(Buffalo, NY, September 11, 2007) - - We want to bring you the very latest on the condition of Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett. News 4's Melissa Holmes reports from Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital.

Doctors have made clear that there's a long road ahead for Bills player Kevin Everett. They admit they do not like his chances of ever walking again. But they're more concerned about his ability to just survive.

Doctors say Everett's condition is worse than first expected. Not only do they consider his chances to walk again slim to none, they also fear his condition could worsen.

Everett's spinal consultant Dr. Andrew Cappuccino said, "An injury at this cervical spinal level often affects the respiratory centers and often times can lead to respiratory collapse, the inability to breathe."

According to doctors, parts of Everett's spinal cord are injured, so they're not sure if the spinal cord will expand or contract. He's now taking anti-inflammatory medicine to prevent any swelling.

Buffalo Bills Medical Director Dr. John Marzo said, "What happens is when they make a tackle, the spine actually aligns they line up straight when they're supposed to have a little curvature."

Dr. Cappuccino said, "These injuries take valleys and pits and we may have been at the peak of a mountain, where we're still heading for a deep valley."

Members of Everett's family arrived in Buffalo from Texas Monday, and his teammates continue to check in on their fallen colleague. It remains heavy on the hearts of the Bills organization Tuesday morning."
