UNT lands 11th 2008 commitment

After a few days of trying to hunt him down, I finally talked to Southlake Carroll offensive lineman Nick Leppo and confirmed that he has committed to North Texas.

Leppo has grown to 6-3, 265, and is expected to play center for the Mean Green. He is the first center in UNT's latest recruiting class.

Leppo named his relationship with UNT head coach and former Carroll head coach Todd Dodge as the reason he decided to play for the Mean Green.

There will be a full story in tomorrow's paper about Leppo along with a list of all 11 of UNT's 2008 commitments. Be sure to pick up a copy of the paper or check www.dentonrc.com for the story.

The following is a link to Leppo's profile page on Rivals.com:

Hey OT, didn't I read at one point (on your lists of prospects) that Cyrus Gray of DeSoto was showing some interest in UNT? I caught DeSoto and Garland Friday night. They have such an explosive backfield with Gray and a transfer RB from Miami. (Adrian Bushell)

That is music to my ears. sounds like he is still growing, and we need linemen bad. Glad to have him on board.

Isn't 245 a bit light for a center? I know he's still growing, but I would think even a high school senior should be bigger.

Andy Brewster , one of the best centers we've had was not all that big.

The kid will easily put on weight and add to the fact that in this fast pace offense having a heavy center may not be the best thing. IMO , the center has to be the fastest and quickest lineman u have out there to be able to captain the line to hurry them up and get the team set in a no huddle offense.

Not only that, how beneficial would it be to have the center and qb used to playing with each other since they were freshmen in HS?.... They both know the system, and they both are used to the way each other works. I really like where this is going.

I think at 265 he doesn't need to put on that much weight at center...smaller, quicker and athletic lineman would be perfect for our system. A WR screen to Casey with a pulling guard or center out in front would be more effective than Korey Washington blocking in front of him
