From Jean-Jacques Taylor's column in the Morning News:

I suppose the Mustangs gained a measure of revenge for the 24-6 beatdown UNT put on them last season, but SMU was a 17-point favorite. Instead, this was a game between two teams that appeared evenly matched.

That's good news for UNT coach Todd Dodge and bad news for Bennett, whose programs is supposed to be on the rise.

And...

See, it's one thing for Texas Tech to run up and down the field, because the Red Raiders have had one of college football's most prolific offenses for years.

But it's quite another for UNT, with an offense Dodge implemented just a few months ago, to put up the type of gaudy numbers it generated against the Mustangs. UNT had scoring drives of 80, 71, 75, 80, and 99 yards, while establishing a school record with 613 yards of total offense.

Casey Fitzgerald, who entered the season with 10 career receptions, set school records with 327 yards receiving on 18 receptions, while quarterback Daniel Meager passed for 601 yards.

Ridiculous.

After two games, SMU bares no resemblence to a bowl team...

I must agree with the assessment.

I think these are the points that need to be looked at most closely. The offense performed like that in its SECOND GAME. This is what gives me hope going into the rest of the season. What will this offense look like towards the meat of Sunbelt play.

I totally agree. Obviously I will wait before booking my room in N'Orlans, but I am optimistic that the projected 7th place finish in the Belt just went out the window.
