It was tough to tell. The North Texas side was packed together, one huge section of green, and being in the middle of it made it hard to tell how many we had. But it was a large and extremely vocal UNT crowd. My throat is very sore. Feels great.

The SMU fans were spread all over their side, so it was hard to judge how many they had. I did not hear attendance announced.

When they announced the 1982 "National Championship" team, they said SMU played some game in front of 40,000 fans. A UNT fan behind me yelled "Not tonight!"

Greatest smack talk I heard all game:

They were running that little pony up the field and the same fan yelled "That's the UGLIEST dog I've ever seen!"

i so wish i could have been there. i listented to it on KNTU on line and it was such an exciting game!!!! Sure, I really wished you could have won last night only because it's SMU. Anybody else and I would have been thrilled with the way we played. I still thought we did pretty darn good but it's too bad we made so many mistakes. Again, any other team and the loss wouldn't have bothered me but great game boys! I listened to the very last minute and cheered you on from Santa Fe.

Ford stadium seats 32,000 and I don't think it could have been much more than half filled although those red seats do a good job of making the stadium seem fuller. My guess is that NT fans were about half the crowd and probably about 10 times the number that SMU brought to Fouts last year. Ford stadium is a very good facility.

Remember, SMU hides at least 1-2k fans or so behind the glass. Hope y'all enjoyed Ford Stadium... and The Boulevard. I heard the usual problem of people not making it from The Vard to the stadium was in full-force yesterday.

There were more than enough people floating through campus and your Vard to fill that stadium and then some, probably even fill the grass at the south end of the field.

Attendance out on The Boulevard is never the problem... just still can't find a way to get people from there into the stadium... probably gonna get about 20k for the next game (Parents wknd + UTEP crowd), then the rest of the games will likely be bare. Maybe if they go on a little win streak more people will make it in to Ford, but still doubt it.

we have the exact same problem and no solution either. sure would be nice if we could get those folks into the game.

BEER!!!!!

If we sold beer inside the stadium, I gurantee you that most would come inside,

and dont give me this winning BS, becasue most of the people that are sitting outside and not coming in arnt there for the football game anyway, their there for the Tailgate party, if we could extend that party inside then they would come in, if we cant then they move on the bar or some other party,

Its that simple

OK, good point. Does Ford Stadium sell beer? Do any of the stadiums sell beer? If they do, does it help?

No beer in the stadium will and should not happen. I don't mind it being readily available outside the stadium with a way to reenter at halftime, for those who want a beer, and don't jive on halftime shows. But no beer inside the stadium.

The stadium was about half full. We made up about 1/3 of the crowd. I sat in the endzone. Did you noticed all but one touchdown was in the open end? That was against the wind.

GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!

I have to admit NT has had the same problem before. Ford Stadium is a very nice facility. And I personally encountered more nice, fun, SMU fans than the “we’re rich (actually our Daddies are), so we’re better” fans.

They could hold a halftime drawing for free attorney services for little SMU co-eds that hit Mean Green fans with their Mercedes.

Tulane and Houston sell beer. Clearly, it's solved their attendance woes <sarcasm>

Glad y'all had fun. Most people that came and visited SMU while I was there to go to a game were really impressed by how many people we got out to tailgate and how great the set up was, and then they were shocked when literally 15% of those people walked maybe 2 blocks to a nice new on-campus stadium. They've built the stadium, it's right on campus, and they've set up a great tailgate.. and now we're in CUSA... and last year went 6-6... and still no one comes. So for those of y'all who think a conference re-alignment and new stadium are the answer, not always the case. I think most die-hard SMU and UNT fans look to CUSA as a savior over the WAC and Sun Belt b/c the teams are closer by... but outside of some of the eastern CUSA teams (and UTEP).. fan bases are a huge problem. And outside of those who are die-hard college football fans (who take time to post on boards), casual football fans look at CUSA opponents as about on-par (in terms of "exciting to go see") with the WAC, Sun Belt, and MAC. Therefore, I don't think that many more people are going to show up to watch SMU or UNT play Tulane or Rice anymore than if they play Arkansas State or UL-U Pick 'Em.

Someone really hit you?

Yes, some little princess in a mercedes convertible. I tried to jump out of the way and landed on her hood. She looked at me like I was a bug that hit her windshield. Then she took off.

A Lesson in Homonyms

there = a place. "We're gonna kick SMU's asses down THERE at Ford Stadium"

their= indicates possesion. "SMU? Hah! We kicked THEIR asses last year, and we'll do it again!"

they're= a contraction of 'they are' "The fans at SMU are dreaming that THEY'RE going to a bowl game this year."

Actually SMU is an it. The Mustangs are a their.

So it should read

their= indicates possesion. "The MUSTANGS? Hah! We kicked THEIR asses last year, and we'll do it again!"

Sorry to be a grammar policeman.

NCAA rules sanction alcohol sales from any on-campus stadium. I am not sure why but I lived in vegas for a while and went to a few games at UNLV where there stadium was off campus. The beer was flowing and it really helped attendance since they were horrible.

Don't be so quick to put CUSA in the same boat as the Belt. CUSA ain't no Big XII, that's for sure, but I can't help but believe that regional opponents wouldn't be an improvement over Florida teams. Attendance last night was not bad considering the first outings of both teams. It's a rivarly that should be continued, and would develop even more if we were in the same conference and fighting for the championship. If SMU goes to a bowl game and does well, you will see a lot of your former SWC fanbase come back. They have simply lost faith in the future.

If we get back to our winning ways and if we get into CUSA some day with a new stadium, we will have fans coming out of the woodwork. Being in the same conference with SMU, Rice and Houston would help all ships to rise.
