Maybe the second biggest upset of the day could have happened in Austin. Arkansas State actually recovered an on-side kick with 56 seconds left in Austin. Big 12 officals called Arkansas State yesterday and admitted they were wrong and the ball should have been given to Arkansas State. Instead the ball was given to Texas and they ran out the clock.

Obviously, it is nice to see an error admitted. But, again you have to wonder about the protection of the Big 12 teams against non-conference teams while playing in Big 12 stadiums.

Arkansas State played a GRAND game...and the Sun Belt really needs a Big Win like that. We all know how the Sun Belt is improving...but, it is going to take some major upsets for us to show the world.

Sorry A-State! GRAND effort. I would have loved to see what you would have done in the last 56 seconds. Just coming off a touchdown and with momentum on your side....it could have been the second MAJOR upset of the day.

worse still - A State should have won WITHOUT this call. They had the ball FOUR times inside the Texas 20 and didn't get a single point. The chances were there long before the onside kick. Doubt ASU is blaming the refs on this one... angry they didn't get one more chance, sure...

AState played a great game. Their RB and QB are very good. The quarterback in particular was elusive, and the UT defensive ends suddenly forgot to keep containment on him. He was also pretty accurate with his passing, and will be a tough guy to stop when they play UNT.

One of the biggest problems State had against Texas was they could not punch the ball in, despite moving virtually at will between the 20's, whether running or throwing. They punked the Texas DL most of the night, so hats off to them. Their placekicker also didn't help State much, bless his heart.

Regarding the onside kick: it was the wrong call, but I can understand how the error could have been made, as the "4th man" was moving toward and behind the kicker as the ball was kicked. Still, would have been a much more exciting finish than the one that actually took place. I don't understand why that call couldn't have been reviewed, but whatever.

The State fans we met on 6th were also very cool, and were hoping for an App St.-style upset. Was nice to get to talk to a few of them.

The best part about this post is that you said "keep containment" instead of "keep contain." How refreshing. Thank you for that.

The greatest thing about this game(and others like it) was that it shows the doubters that the mid majors can compete and deserve to be on the same field regardless of what hacks like Crag James says about them.

Absolutely. And, regardless of what anyone says, the ref's wouldn't thrown that flag in Austin if it was UT getting the onside kick.

Shouldn't have needed the onside kick. On the other hand the onside kick would have been moot if Mack had settled for field goal rather than trying to put us away with four shots at the end zone on 1st and goal from the three.

Not the first time a mid-major has been ripped off in that stadium, its been going on for years.....They actually admitted to it because they had no other choice, it was obvious.

A-state would have probably scored..... Im a big Texas fan but after seeing Oklahoma manhandle North Texas and working on all cylinders in that game, Texas is going to get run over by Oklahoma
