UNT students and alumni may compete against SMU students and alumni in a Game Before the Game Gameslinger video contest before the universities’ Sept. 8 football game.

The contest will be at AT&T Plaza at Dallas’ Victory Park. Games will be played on giant television screens outside WFAA-TV studios from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The football game begins at 7 p.m. at SMU’s Ford Stadium. The Mean Green defeated SMU 24-6 in 2006 in a game that is becoming a Metroplex rivalry. The Mean Green's first home game and Sun Belt Conference opener will be 6 p.m., Sept. 22 against Florida Atlantic at Fouts Field.

UNT students and alumni will be on the team of George Dunham, a 1988 graduate of UNT and co-host of “The Musers” on KTCK-AM, “The Ticket.” SMU students and alumni will be on the team of Rich Phillips, SMU football announcer and host of “Race Week” on KTCK-AM. Students and alumni will compete for prizes, including roundtrip airfare on Southwest Airlines.

Game players compete against each other in new electronic video games, such as Madden NFL 08, NASCAR 08 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08.

The games are free to all participants. To sign up, e-mail Phillips or Dunham at P1@theticket.com. Dunham and Phillips will select their teams on Sept. 7.

Sponsors are the Dallas Morning News and EA Sports.

In true spirit of the blue collar crowd vs. the trust fund babies, they should have two events consisting of Golden Tee and Silver Strike Bowling.

Each team plays both, then combine the score from both events and award the beer (or martinis) as the prize.
