Spent some time with the family yesterday and as always heard more great storys about JQ that made him the man we have all become so proud of today.

As you remember he had ankle surgery last year and was not fully recovered from it the entire time he was with Buffalo. The shame of it all was that the week he was to be released fully by the doctor was the week he was released by Buffalo, the week before Fall camp. Then he tried out for the Saints, and as of yesterday was still hopeful in making their practice squad. That tryout was his first full workout he was able to do without experiencing any swelling or soreness at all. As it turns out, Buffalo never saw a 100% JQ. Their loss.

The new football league has contacted him and has stated a great interest in him. The attitude is, Johnny Quinn will be playing pro ball, somewhere. He's had to do everything in his life the hard way and this is no different.

To set the story straight, and this is a qoute. "Kelvin Martin was the one that had to push, and push to get DD to offer JQ". Everyone is still very appreciative of DD for eventually doing this, but it would not have happened without KM. I know that I posted it that "DD didn't want JQ", which got DD's child upset here on this board, and maybe that was a harsh way to put it? But most of you knew what I meant with that statement.

Funny note about North Texas finally signing JQ. Texas Tech was stringing JQ along. He went to their big camp that previous year and attended with several hundred campers. At the end of the camp only 5 players were picked for a special one on one with the head coaches, and JQ was one of them. Tech led him to believe he was in the bag for a scholarship, and considering he was one of 5 chosen during their camp this seemed true. But for whatever reason as recruiting goes, they broke off contact as recruting neared, and then called the weekend before to tell him to stand by for the next week. As that turned out, they had made a mistake on the list and called him instead of the intended player just above him on the list. They called him back that next week and said it was a mistake and apologized. North Texas called and finally offered that week of signing day. As it turned out, the boy above him that was suppose to have gotten that call, and was eventually offered was academically ineligible and never played for Tech. When senior night for JQ's last home game approached they sent out invitations to friends and family. Included was an invite and thank you to the coaching staff of Texas Tech for their poor decision that allowed him "to become the all-time leading reciever at North Texas".
