I disagree with UNTLifer and Green CO,

Yes coaching football is coaching football but thats where there are levels, pee wee, junior high, hs, college, professional etc. Yes TD knows everything about football probably but its easier said than done. This level is just very advanced than what TD was coaching last year and what he was coaching as the offensive coordinator in the early 90's. If coaching was coaching why couldnt Spurrier and Saban excel in the NFL? There is more schemes, brainpower and etc from a coaches standpoint.

Afcourse a huge part of everything is talent but you dont ALWAYS have to have the best talent to win or atleast compete. In essence BSU had no business beating OU but they did because of the system and probably passion and heart not to mention good coaches that have had experience in that level for some time.. The Lakers who had the top 2 players in the NBA lost to a Detroit team that had 5 pretty decent players in the 2004 finals and that shouldnt have happened.

Football today is not the same football 20-30 years ago because the landscape and advancement has really changed....that is why you dont really see college coaches make the big jump to the NFL and be successful anymore like you probably once did.....teams go after Offensive and Defensive coordinators.

So if we think that hiring a HS coach has no bearing in his first couple of seasons then I think that is rediculous because there is a huge learning curve.

I agree with this to some degree. Each level has more sophistication and speed as you go along. I watched Mendoza last night and he was really mad in the first half. Yet, he didn't change his game plan. To me, it just as big a learning curve for him and the high school coaches we hired as it is to a freshman playing his first game.

OU ran the same pass plays over and over. They worked and we didn't adjust. Hey, you know what? Maybe we should have or maybe we shouldn't have. It probably wouldn't have mattered in the long run. I wouldn't worry yet. It could be that the coaching staff has told the guys, "Look, this is our defense, and you're going to have to take your licks and learn it."

I won't worrying about it unless Sun Belt teams are doing it to us. If Arkansas State and FAU, etc. receivers are running all over our DBs and the game plane doesn't change, then I'll be worried. But, against OU and Arkansas...what can you really ask the DBs to do about the speed difference, and with OU the experience? All of the their WRs and TEs had significant playing time over the past two or three seasons. Most of them were returning starters.

---Anyone who is really down on Dodge is Ridiculous. The only players he recruited are now FRESHMAN.. and we were playing as team in the top ten that at the moment seemed to absolutely belong there. OU's receivers were very good and our corners and backs could not handle them at all. We actually threw for more yards against OU than Texas did against Arky state and the number of passes thrown were very close in number-- 33 to 38. UT and the Aggies will get mauled by OU if this weekend's results mean anything. The Aggies had less first downs, less yards, only had the ball 25 min to Montana States 35 minutes. plus MSU was in the Aggie red zone 5 times and only got 7 points. OU will kill them as well.

Beat SMU... [ I believe Fran and the Aggies was behind OU by 80 points at the end of the 3rd quarter a couple of years ago ] those thing happen. I look for next year's recruits to be mostly defense...especially quick skilled corners and DB's. excessive speed with good ability can make a defensive team look very bad and they did.

And yes Jimmy Johnson moved up to the NFL and went 1-15.. about three years later they were winning Super Bowls.

I agree...and I think if you look at what Dodge has done in recruiting--signing a JUCO DB in June/July should have signaled red flags to us all--he is going after speedy corners and safeties. I think 4 of the 10 2008 commits are in the secondary (though I could be wrong if some of those "athletes" end up elsewhere). Then we graduate a ton off our 2 deep at dline and LB....it's going to take several years to stockpile enough talent to make up for all the holes we're going to have on defense after this offseason.
