---Later teams pick up player from waivers that others cut so he is not out of the woods yet. They are showing four running backs, Cobbs, Brown, Booker and Chatman. The only RB on the reserve list is Ricky Williams who is gone for the year, I believe....

Taken from Yahoo news article, sounds good for Patrick and may mean playing time...note the order the names were listed...

Green hopes to reverse quarterback decline with Dolphins..

Green may have his work cut out for him. The Dolphins' offensive line features a new starter at all five positions. They're expecting big things of rookie first-round draft pick Ted Ginn Jr., who has the tools to be a top-flight receiver but obviously not the experience.

The backfield remains a question mark. Ronnie Brown has done nothing to suggest he was worthy of being picked second overall in 2005. Journeyman backups Patrick Cobbs and Jesse Chatman have both looked better in camp.

It looks like Awasom made it with the Giants, and Kassel and Spencer stuck with the Jets. With Brian Waters, we're starting the year with 5 in the NFL. I can't remember a time recently where we have had that many.

DOLPHINS | CUTDOWN DAY

Dolphins hope to get better by getting younger

The Dolphins opted for young players with upside potential, rather than keep veterans as they firmed up their 53-man roster.

Miami hasn't had consistency at QB since Marino retired

So much for the secret weapon. The Dolphins terminated the contract of their most experienced fullback Saturday, the team's most-notable move on the final day of cuts.

Fullback Cory Schlesinger, who was heralded as the free agent signing that could help running back Ronnie Brown emerge as an elite back, apparently didn't impress the coaching staff enough to merit a roster spot.

The team instead decided to keep one fullback on its 53-man roster -- rookie Reagan Mauia -- while getting rid of the 12-year veteran. Fullback Kyle Eckel was also waived.

''We feel good about the guys on our team, and I think we have a good mix of veteran and young players on our roster,'' general manager Randy Mueller said in a statement.

Coach Cam Cameron was not available for comment. But it was clear the team's approach had an emphasis on developing young players rather than settling for aging veterans.

YOUTH MOVEMENT

At wide receiver, the team also kept the younger player in a choice between undrafted rookie Kerry Reed and 10-year veteran Az-Zahir Hakim.

Despite an unproductive preseason, Hakim seemed to have an edge on Reed for the fifth spot at wide receiver. However, the idea of gambling on Reed's development seemed to outweigh the notion of holding onto Hakim as an insurance policy at the position.

Each of the team's 10 draft picks made the final cut, and Miami decided to keep three undrafted rookies (linebacker Edmond Miles, safety Courtney Bryan and Reed).

Also, perhaps the player who had to prove the most to make the final roster, running back Patrick Cobbs, survived the final wave of cuts as the fourth running back on the team. It is typically difficult -- although not entirely unorthodox -- for a team to keep so many running backs on the active roster.

But Cobbs had been impressive throughout training camp, capped by a solid performance in Thursday's final preseason game against the Saints. Also a strong special teams player, Cobbs' ability forced the team to make moves at other positions.

By waiving veteran tight end Courtney Anderson, the team kept two tight ends, making the extra room at the running back slot. Tight end David Martin will serve as the primary pass catcher at that position, and Justin Peele will be used as the blocking tight end.

Backup center Johnathan Ingram also has made obvious strides since joining the team on a tryout basis during one of the offseason minicamps. The Dolphins signed Ingram after the minicamp ended, allowing him to impress enough during training camp to make the final cut.

On offense, the following players were cut: guard Tala Esera, tight end Aaron Halterman, quarterback Gibran Hamdan, guard Marquay Love, wide receiver Michael Malone, tight end Tim Massaquoi, guard Stephen Parker, tackle Julius Wilson, wide receiver P.K. Sam, and guard Dan Stevenson.

On defense, eight other players were cut: defensive end Mkristo Bruce, defensive end Jorge Cordova, safety Tuff Harris, cornerback Derrick Johnson, cornerback Geoff Pope, defensive tackle Brian Soi, linebacker Jim Maxwell, and linebacker Robert McCune.

''This is always a difficult day,'' Mueller said. 'Everyone in camp did everything we asked of them. They worked hard, they had a positive attitude, and they embraced our `team' philosophy.''

FILLING NEEDS

The team's final roster can still change. The team will be analyzing players who were cut by other teams for potential upgrades, as well as assembling its practice squad.

Teams can begin putting together their practice squads today, a group that could include some of the players cut in the past week.

• Cornerback André Goodman was activated off the active/physically unable to perform list.

The move expresses the team's confidence that Goodman will be able to return from his shoulder injury within the first six weeks of the season.
