Hmmm? A 35-40,000 seat stadium in Denton of which Coach Dodge talked about in the Randy Galloway 103.3 FM interview? What a novel idea. :o:rolleyes:

It is very obvious that Todd Dodge did not graduate from the University of North Texas; that is, as our school (and region) gets larger makes some of our elect think even smaller?

I'm just glad we don't have 50,000 enrollment now or we might have a hardy handful who'd think a 20,000 seat stadium would suffice. Simply amazing...

2010 is also when UNT hosts Kansas State.

I heard the interview live yesterday. Good stuff from TD about the winning attitude. I was also surprised that he expects to open the season in 2010 in a new stadium? I got the impression from RV that we were no-where close to that happening so soon? Still, a good interview. I did think it was a bit of a cheap shot for them to ask Todd Dodge if Southlake Carroll could have beaten NT last year? TD said "Uh?, no..."

GMG!!!

TD may want a 35-40,000 seat double bowl stadium open by 2010... he also wants to go undefeated this year. Doesn't mean it's going to happen. RV said it was going to be a 30k stadium.

Is it time to start wagering on how many seats it really ends up being, though?

UNT would be humiliating itself and most of its progressive thinking alums if they build smaller than Fouts Field. No bets required on that part, either.

UNTflyer, you won't go catatonic on us if it actually is built larger than 30K, right?

Isn't Fouts currently at the minimum capacity to meet D-I requirements? PMG, are you thinking we'll build a new stadium and move to D-II? ;)

To open a new stadium in 2010 we've gotta begin construction by the end of the 2008 season. So I'd say how the team and fans performs over the next two years will determine how big we go. If season tickets sales, donations and attendance increases as expected then I expect the university to reward us. If average attendance is still 15-20k then we really don't need a 40k seat stadium but if we are averaging over 25k and have the donations to go with it then the university would be stupid to build something that would be obsolete once it's complete. I see the next two years as a fan and program audition for a new stadium.

As I've said many times before, it will probably be 31, 32, or 33 thousand, but people like round numbers in press releases and interviews. You are the one who seems obsessed with this 30,000 number.

Even if they did build it at 30k, I don't see how you could call it "humiliating". What could be more humiliating than walking into Fouts?

There are no minimum capacity requirements only attendance requirements.

I say we build a new stadium that seats 30,001. Dodge wouldn't mention a new stadium, seating capacity (ballpark) and completion year if he didn't know something.

OK...I know everyone has already talked about this, but my face LIT UP when Coach Dodge mentioned said he thought we would be in a new stadium by 2010. That, really is not that far away!!! :)

Defering to a recent ADLER post and to answer your question as to what could be more humiliating: To walk inside a new college football stadium in the state of Texas whereas the seating capacity is smaller than your school's enrollment; in fact, the only D1-A school that would meet such a criteria according to ADLER (as I recall). Now THAT would be un-Texan and.................humiliating!

Wouldn't it be less humiliating to have a stadium we can fill...and, as the program grows, be able to expand as needed...rather than have more seats than we can fill and never have a sellout?

JD, with all the growth and more progressive thinking which would ordinarily come with such newfans/new faces, maybe we would actually have a few sellouts? We have to all think that we will actually advance much more than our present (and faithful) 15K, right?:)

Geez, folks, we ain't always going to function in Denton like we have the last 25 freakin' years, too, now are we? Lets all hope not for the sake of all that is green and all that is good, right, FFR?

Jim, what would you say to a stadium very similar to GJFord--ie: around 32-35K, with similar expandability? Curious about your thoughts on something like this.

LJ, I would love a GJFord-type stadium in Denton but with the 35,000 initial seating. (With such a stadium in the Mean Green Village, could we then steal the Tom Landry HS Classic from SMuuuuuu's GJFord Stadium using the sales feature/benefit that the fans of all the participating HS's could get to our new stadium much quicker and actually park near it as well)? :D

Sorta looking ahead here, but couldn't UNT do some very nice & special things with the Denia Duck Pond which is located at the NW corner of where our new stadium will be? With proper landscaping (and shade trees) near that pond, what a nice place for tail-gating, eh? B)
