From now until Saturday, players like Dolphins running back Patrick Cobbs will hope every morning comes without a request to head to the coach's office with his playbook in hand.

''They gave me a couple more days, I guess,'' Cobbs joked Monday after practice, the same day nine of his teammates previously met with coach Cam Cameron to find out they had been cut.

This can often be a difficult week for players on the bubble of making the final 53-man roster. Today marks the deadline teams must trim from 85 to 75 players, but the Dolphins decided not to delay the inevitable by releasing most of them a day early.

The team must cut one more player today -- and 12 more players after that by Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline to have 53-man rosters completed.
