DAVIE - Evidently, Miami Dolphins coach Cam Cameron and General Manager Randy Mueller are in a hurry to fine-tune the 53-man roster as they cut nine players Monday, a day earlier than the league mandated.

The Dolphins waived kicker Matt Prater, punter Ryan Flinn, rookie receiver David Sutton, tight end Jason Rader, cornerback Shirdonya Mitchell, safeties Christopher Vedder and Chris Harrell, former Dillard running back Ray Perkins, and perhaps the biggest surprise of all, defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson.

Good news. Cameron obviously hasn't made up his mind on the backup RB(s). Still, I'd feel better for Patrick if one or more of his competitors had gotten the handshake and gold watch.

Great news. PC gets a little more time to make up for a couple of bad plays in the last preseason game, and hopefully can play the way he did in the previous 2. He should get more time to show what he has as I doubt Ronnie Brown will see more than maybe a series in the last game.

I was about to draft PC in my fantasy draft but I have some questionable RBs as it is. If I had drafted a stronger core of RBs I would have kept Cobbs.

BTW, I do have Patrick on my fantasy team since I have Reggie Bush and Marion Barber III already starting.
