Members of GOMEANGREEN.COM man a booth at all home NT games and get signatures on a petition to have Abner Haynes elected to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Now as I'm writing this, I don't know who we'd give such a petition to, but with several thousand names, from fans and opponent's fans as well, maybe we could muster some media interest and get the (foot)ball rolling. I'd work a shift per game. What'ya think ?

Thanks Boise

I think this is a great idea...how he isn't already in is beyond me.

I'm all for it. I emailed the selection committee recently and received a few replies. The list of media that comprise the selection committee can be found on the TSHOF website.

Haynes was bypassed by the TSHOF committee for nomination this year yet again, but was included in the veteran's ballot. To vote for him now that he has been nominated, you need to become a member of the TSHOF, which costs 25 dollars, though I think the ballots have already been mailed for this year. Even if he doesn't get in this time, at least he was nominated. Hopefully next year the committee will nominate him and it won't fall back to the veteran's ballot.

The fact he isn't in already greatly discredits the hall's relevance, but even worse is the joke of a committee that meets and comes up with dozens of other names every year other than Haynes. I have emailed them more than once, and I don't think they care how many of us are upset, or the logical reasons for it. They would rather continue to relive the old SWC glory days.

I believe that this campaign was started about a year ago and it's possible that he's been nominated for this ballot. If not, any campaign that we start has until June 1, 2008 to be completed for next year's nominations.

I don't know if the petition itself would do anything. However, the work on the petition might get noticed by Vito or another media type that might focus some attention on Abner Haynes.
