I just don't put dogs in general that high up on a pedestal.

If while you were away on business, one was to wake your wife and kiddos up in the middle of the night because it alarmed to someone breaking in, or a crashing noise due to fire etc, you would put it up that high.

If you were blind and needed to conduct business outside of your home on a normal basis and needed a canine assistant, you would.

If you were trapped under rubble or in a snow bank and precious minutes ticked away on your life, you would.

If you raise chickens, goat, cows and any number of other livestock, you would.

If your a cop assigned to go into a dark warehouse to look for someone aimed at doing you harm, you would.

If your child's school gets a bomb scare, you would.

If you support our border patrol and DEA agents in their everyday battle to keep our country safe, you would.

If you or a family member or friend are ever involved in a major catastrophe and are in need of a USAR team in any way, you would.

If your that research doctor or his patients who are involved in teaching canines in sniffing out illnesses, you would.

If your child has been missing for 3 hours and the county sherriff department has asked you for an article of his/her clothing, you damn sure would.

Get my point?

Good grief ya'll need to separate things here. No one is defending the dog-fighting. It's a disgusting exploitation. Racing greyhounds doesn't seem so vicious. In my mind, training dogs to kill, and training them to race are completely different things.

I think it's the aftermath that is the argument. In greyhound racing, the dogs are disposed of because they are deemed worthless by investors. This is completely disregarding whether they'd make good pets or not, because their behavior doesn't matter. They can't win races, thus they are killed.

What Vick did is dispose of dogs that were bred to kill. Quite honestly, these dogs were not salvageable. I sure as hell wouldn't want to adopt something that was trained to rip into another one's neck. Wouldn't we agree those dogs that lost the fights would have been euthanized anyways? There may be extremely rare cases of something to the contrary, but I think my point still stands.

So what is it about Vick burying the dogs that wouldn't have been done by somebody else? The greyhound dogs, IMO, were unjustly disposed of.

What I gathered from the PETA incident I linked to is that the counties agreed to give PETA an opportunity to provide the dogs with a home. A number of the animals in that story should have been evaluated by professionals to determine if they would have been good pets. If otherwise, PETA had the go to euthanize them. The counties cut off the agreement because PETA went ahead and put them to sleep before determining anything. Over the course of a month, 80 animals were dumped dead in the trash before given an opportunity to be found a home or evaluated. Another case of either a horrible miscommunication, or disposing of animals that were merely an inconvenience to someone.

just my two cents. carry on.

I did say in general.

Rest assured that if Vick was killing seeing eye dogs or even family pets I would be as stirred up as all you seem to be.
