Just To Ruffle Everyone Feathers...

I think everyone is fine now with closed practices, but the first scrimmage clusterf**k put a sour taste in many's mouths. The Ath Dept should not have lied about construction and just come out and say T. Dodge has a closed practice philosophy.

They could have also mentioned Summer Graduation and not wanting to add to the traffic problems. I can understand the liability issues concerning construction, but mention all of the factors, not just one.

TICKETS GOING FAST

The OU Athletics Ticket Office announced that tickets for Oklahoma's season opener against North Texas on September 1 are sold out. A limited number of single-game tickets remain for the Utah State and Baylor games.

They better hope to sell those out the next two weeks. The demand will drop after we have finished with them.....LOL

G Money, since you're a former player, who is in good with Coaches Dodge and Lacroix, I'm sure that you can go to any scrimmage you want to. And, you probably wouldn't have to stand behind the fence, if you wanted to go to a practice. So, I don't see that you're really in the same boat, as the rest of us fans.

And that being said, I don't remember anyone on here, bitching about not being able to go to today's scrimmage. So, why you felt the need to reopen a sore spot (with some of us), is beyond me.

And yes, OU doesn't need the publicity. WE DO. As I recall, we have about 15,000 empty seats (on average) at games. And Coach Dodge, just willing that Fouts be filled....doesn't mean that it's going to happen.

Anyway, I hope Dodge's "Us Against the World" philosophy works better than the last guy's.

I'm sure I don' need to defend G Money, but it was a Joke.

Everybody is too close to blowing up over silly $hit. The Mean Green Nation needs to be strong and we're a helluva lot stronger when we're together rather than bickering like whiny reporters.

Yes, I can attend a practice or a scrimmage if I wanted to, but that's not the point. If practice was closed to me it wouldn't matter. Heck, I never attend a practice from the DD era. He didn't really seem to care about the former players (non DD regime) and therefore none of us felt welcome. With that being said, I never said a negative word on this board or any other about not being allowed to attend practices. It really doesn't bother me.

As for TD, he's not trying to create a me against the world attitude. He's always closed his practices. His job is on the line and if he feels that's the best way to do things so that injury reports, change of positions, formations and plays don't end up on the board (like they did during the Spring) then that's his right to do so. If he is also worried about the first 2 opponents we play being less than 2 1/2 hours drive from here, I can't blame him for that either. I would probably do the same thing (only the announcement would have been earlier). The only advantage we are going to have over OU is the fact they really don't know what to expect (other than watching SLC). Why give that away? SMU will have one game film (OU) - why give that away?

The real problem is it has been too long since everyone has seen some football. Everyone is excited and no one wants to wait. I understand that, I'm excited. However, people also need to look at it from TD's point of view. Fouts Field being filled with fans should not be reflective as to whether or not they can see a practice or a scrimmage. That's pretty weak and shallow and would be reflective of the type of fans other schools perceive us to be!

Let's talk publicity. I will begin to worry about reporters feelings when they can write an article without a "but", "however", back handed compliment, or direct disparaging remark while supposedly giving us "good" publicity (Vito this not aimed at you).

As for why I put the Stoops article out there, it was to show that it's not uncommon for coaches to close practice. We may not like it, but our jobs are not on the line!

BTW, just for the record I didn't go to last week's scrimmage or today's out of respect for his wishes. As time goes on, I might. But for now, I have no problem complying and waiting like everyone else.
