By Brett Vito / Staff Writer

North Texas has added another quarterback to the growing number of players who will try to lead the Mean Green back to the top of the Sun Belt Conference.

Eric Johnson spent the first two seasons of his career at SMU before spending the spring semester at Texas State. The former Plano West standout transferred to UNT over the summer and is practicing with the Mean Green for the first time this fall.

Johnson will sit out the upcoming season to fulfill NCAA transfer rules and is expected to have three years of eligibility remaining at UNT.

"Eric is a great kid and was an outstanding quarterback at Plano West," UNT head coach Todd Dodge said. "He comes from a tremendous family. We recruited his little brother and are glad to have him as part of our team."

Some more interesting info regarding the QB race from the article posted above.

Dodge said he was pleased with how the competition is progressing with Vizza and a host of other veteran players who are trying to win the starting quarterback job for the upcoming season. Junior Daniel Meager and redshirt freshman Nathan Tune are both working with the first team offense.

Junior Matt Phillips is also involved in the competition.

"During the spring we were able to create some outstanding competition," Dodge said. "The plan that we had before spring ball is following through. I plan to go through the first two scrimmages of fall practice and name a starter quickly after that."

Can't see this other Johnson ever playing a down at UNT, at least not at QB. Sounds like he's bounced around and is just trying to find a home as a scout-teamer. Wouldn't think he seriously factors into any competition, next year or otherwise. No offense kid, but...

Again, please do not speculate, your not TD....Emmit and The fireman do not appreciate those thoughtless comments.
