First of all since practice is closed to the public it is hard to see what is going on through the fence but sometimes the action was pretty close so I saw a few things. I was there for about an hour and here are just some small things that got my attention.

I thought practice was very organized and there definitely is a different feel, which is always the case when there is a coaching change. But it was exciting to see. I was also really suprised to see Coach Dodge coaching his butt off with the WR's and QB's. Most head coaches sit back and supervise and the assistants do all the coaching but Coach Dodge was right in the thick of things.

It was crazy to see all the footballs flying and each station was passing drills and WR's doing routes. I think the person that most stuck out in my mind was Casey Fitzgerald, he was so fluid running routes, caught everything, and I mean everything and he was definitely the most impressive WR. Coach Dodge told all the receivers to watch him run his routes a couple of times. I think that he might be our leading receiver this year, but it is still early. Also it was good to see Brandon Jackson look good and being leader. The other biggest suprise was Brock Stickler he looked so big and fast out there and he lines up in the slot, so he should be a matchup nightmare for everybody in the slot.

I wish I could give an update about QB's but there really isnt anything to say from what I saw b/c they were just throwing routes to WR's when I was there. So it really hard to tell who look good and nobody really stood out to me.

THe only other thing that I paid attention to is our secondary. We looked really athletic back there and I think we got a lot of guys who can play and the competition was good. I think our secondary will be very solid this year.

I almost forgot, when I go out to practice I like to look and see who the guys who stand out to me as physical speciman's or what I call "freaks." The one that caught my eye from the get go is Sam Dibrell, he is a good looking athlete and is a huge WR. I like the fact that he is wearing green.

Sorry wish I had more but like I said it is hard to see from the fence.

I know its very early, but damn - this seems to be a theme for the past 2 years in the QB position. Hopefully, 1 of our 5 QBs will step up and take a leadership role by Sept. 1. I'm sure it will happen, I just want it now :D

Just read this in another post: UNT adds another quarterback

Correction to my post above, 1 of our 6 QBs....

I have a question about practice - if you can see through the fence, is practice really closed? I realize you could actually go through that gate inside the fence with DD, but I mean you can see a lot of what is going on behind the fence. If the team has practice at Fouts, and you can watch from the stadium, is that considered closed because you can't get on the field?

Just curious.

If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to see it, did it really fall? That is the question!

Part of your problem is staying inside the fence rather going behind the fense.

You know, I had the same thoughts.....then I remember that DD recruited kids to play QB that literally no one else wanted at QB, so in terms of the position and what we have, to me there is really only 1 or 2 that will be able to run the offense effectively.

Part of the motvie could be to minimize player distractions (media, fans, etc). And keeping people outside the fence probably serves that function.
