Football: Former Mean Green receiver Johnny Quinn cut by Bills

10:45 AM CDT on Thursday, July 26, 2007

Former North Texas wide receiver Johnny Quinn was cut by the Buffalo Bills on Monday, just days before the team was set to opening training camp.

Quinn is UNT’s all-time leader in receptions (187) and receiving yards (2,718). He completed his highly decorated career with the Mean Green last season.

Quinn was not selected in the NFL Draft, but signed with the Bills in the hours following the final pick as a rookie free agent. The former McKinney standout attended a series of mini camps with the Bills before being released.

The Bills re-signed Jonathan “Freddie” Smith after he was released by the New England Patriots and cleared room for him on the roster by releasing Quinn.
