A similar instance of a coach changing the uniforms with a "look like winners" attitude.

Coach

Knowing how clothes can make the man, he got permission from the Pittsburgh Steelers—who had been to the Super Bowl three out of the past five years and whose colors just happened to be black and gold—to copy their uniforms. "We changed our image," Fry said. "At least when we ran out on the field or broke the huddle, we would look like winners."

It's like going on a date or going to a party: If you look good, you'll probably feel better. And we all know that a lot of what determines a game's outcome goes on in the player's heads, so this totally makes sense.

I wonder if they called Iowa Hawkeyes the "Iowa Steelers".

And for that UNT-SLC crap, we've had the white helmet/green jersey thing for years, long before SLC even existed.

We were green and white before Southlake, TX was even INCORPORATED.

Very true. Before Todd Dodge was a twinkle in his father's eye...that time period's incarnation of UNT was green and white. Wish people would get that UNT had white helmets with stripes on them for decades before we took up the green helmets. This goes back...20 years or so before Mean Joe's time at UNT.

I have no problem with Dodge/RV changing the uniforms, and they probably did it for some of the same reasons, great! I have no problem with a similarity to SLC's uniforms, they are sharp too, and have a good legacy winning. Maybe we are copying Marshall University?:

Having ensured that his team would look good, the coach turned to the fans, those stalwart Hawkeyes he admired so much for persisting in following the team through a score of bad years. Wanting a sea of black and gold in the stadium, Fry formed a marketing company to change the environment of Kinnick Stadium. He got over 60 J.C. Penney stores across the state to open up Hawkeye apparel departments.

Hmmmm.

When Hayden Fry was coaching at North Texas, you could by some North Texas gear (at least t-shirts) at the J.C. Penneys at NE Mall.

How much NT gear do they sell at the Albertsons on University?
