Irish expected to play Baylor in Arlington in 2012

By WENDELL BARNHOUSEwbarnhouse@star-telegram.com

When Baylor faces Notre Dame in 2012, the game more than likely will be played at the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington.

Sources said Wednesday that Notre Dame and the Cowboys have exchanged documents regarding the Oct. 6, 2012, game played at the NFL facility.

Notre Dame is the home team in the one-game contract with Baylor. Notre Dame is expected to make an announcement about playing the game in Arlington in the next few days.

A year ago, Notre Dame announced it wanted to start playing one of its seven home games at neutral sites around the country.

Recently, Notre Dame announced it would play Washington State at San Antonio's Alamodome on Oct. 31, 2009. Notre Dame, one of three Division I-A independents, also plans to play an opponent to be determined in Orlando's Citrus Bowl in 2011 and 2014.

Rumor has it that Notre Dame was to come to Denton to play in our new stadium , but after RV's last statement the Irish didn't feel 100% confident it was going to get done and took the Baylor deal instead.

Again, that is just a rumor

I wonder if Guy Morris will be at Baylor long enough to see this one through.

This is a unusual step for Notre Dame. They usually don't schedule cream-puffs.

Notre Dame games:

1988 --Rice

1989 --SMU after death penalty

1998-- Baylor

and lots of games against, Army, Navy, Northwestern and usually weak Rutgers. They usually have a 2-3 very weak teams but well known names. That really hasn't been the case much lately though. Service academy games usually appear late in the season when everyone else is playing conference games and have inflexable schedules and strong teams are playing conference games only..

The 1988 Rice game was funny... Rice had several Catholic Priests sitting on their bench. ND did not think it was funny.

---The new Cowboy stadium is in ARLINGTON not Irving...

This should interesting watching both of them looking for the stadium in Irving.

 Oops , It's going to be weird to have the Cowboys being synonymous with Arlington in a few years

Maybe we could take over the empty stadium and host a BCS opponent that weekend

Morris should be gone at the very latest by next year.

ND probably just wanted to get into TX for recruiting

Weis wants to dip his toes in the Texas and Florida recruiting hotbed. That is all this ND "world tour" is about. You can bet that Tuna Lite will have every 4 and 5 star recruit in Texas at that game.

---You are exactly right...They try to the "America's Team" of college football. Look at their past schedules, There are almost always a couple of games that are big mismatches (Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue etc.). They usually have an Eastern team other than a service academy, (Penn State Lately) They usually play a couple of Southern teams or maybe one Southwestern team, one or two West Coast teams which will include Southern Cal and ther service academies will have a lot of widespead national support.

---They refuse to join a football conference which would give them a regional image and by doing so they get to NOT share their bowl money plus they are on NATIONAL TV every week. (good for recruiting). They have the support of the religious group group that is one of the largest and is the most widespead in America. They are not dumbies when it comes to recruiting..... play all over America and play on TV EVERY week.
