I may have forgotten, but didn't a certain QB burn everyone on the field for a 60yd TD run?

:D

....and lead the first touchdown drive against the horns in recent memory?

No way Vizza redshirts and I really don't think Tune baring some major injuries at the QB position, will ever step foot on the field as a serious QB. He might get some reps in games that are long over, but I doubt he ever plays much at that position.

I agree that Vizza will not redshirt (nor do I think that he should).

First, of all Dodge promised him a shot at the starting quarterback. That was how he lured him away from Nevada. To red-shirt him would be going back on his word and Todd Dodge is a man of honor.

Second, I think that you will find that Vizza is the best quarterback. He won a competition as the most accurate passer. He is used to making quick decisions. He is used to using the clock. He is tailor-made for this offense. If he didn't think so, he would have kept his commitment to Nevada.

Third, Meager loses a lot of the edge in experience because he was in a totally different style of offense and must unlearn old habits. Woody is too quick to run with the ball and he has no experience in this type of offense. I believe that he was the only spring quarterback to get a delay of game penalty. Tune, although he seemed to be a fast learner at the all-star game had not mastered Dodge's offense through the spring game. Phillips is too slow and has established himself as the holder for field goals and extra points.

Fourth, redshirting Vizza might, if Vizza iturns out to be an outstanding quarterback, cost Riley a year of starting.

Coach Dodge stated the "QB job is still open".

Then did not Coach Dodge state something to the effect, regarding GV,

that "he fits the offense"?

I think GV will get a good shot at taking over the offense. I think GV has

a big advantage over the other QB candidates right now, because GV

ran the spread for 2 years in a successfull HS program, and appears to have

a goal of becoming the starting QB. Heck-he has been at NT all summer working

out, and playing 7 on 7 with the receivers.

For Meagar, Tune, and Wilson, one of these guys must really prove to Coach Dodge

he can do the job, and beat out all the candidates including GV.

Right now, it is too early for my vote for the starting QB-I want to see how these

guys handle 2 adays, and the offense. Each has their own advantages. For now,

I would say # 1 is Meagar-has college game experience, # 2 Vizza-knows how to

run the offense-but-is he ready to face Oklahoma # 3 Wilson-game experience and his speed

#4 Tune--needs to learn to run the offense, no college game experience. #5-Johnson signed

by SMU, was #2 behind Willis-just have to wait and see what he can do-

All I can say for sure is the #1 candidate to the # 5 candidate will change every week of fall

practice until the coaching staff find the qualities they want for the # 1 QB. Just let the coaching

staff handle this guessing game.

Exactly. Vizza will not be red-shirted. He's here to play- this year. And he probably will.

I think you have to play Vizza this year, if for no other reason to help you determine whether or not you redshirt Riley in 08.
