It is always fun to gauge reaction when wearing the Mean Green gear on the road. Here is some reaction I got from the family vacation in Hawaii:

* Wearing my Mean Green Club shirt, a guy came up to me and said, "You guys finally got a coach. It is going to be fun watching you guys the next few years." This guy lives in the Metroplex and played football at Ouachita Baptist, but his daughter is considering attending NT.

* Getting on the plane home wearing a NT football shirt, a flight attendant and pilot greeted me with a "Go Mean Green." I heard the pilot say something like, "North Texas guy sitting in first class, huh (I was upgraded)?" Later when I asked a group of flight attendants if anyone had a pen I could borrow, one of the flight attendants said he would do so only because his daughter just graduated from North Texas.

* Two other people on the plane asked if I was excited about Todd Dodge. One was from Southlake and the other was from Arlington.

* The flight was cancelled and we ended up back in Waikiki. Walking down the street to a restaurant, I heard someone yell: "Hey, Mean Green." Really nice guy came up to me and told me he played for Hayden Fry. He is an attorney in Chicago now. I am horrible with names, but would recognize it if I saw it. Anyone have a source for rosters during those days? Name was something like Pickens, or Kitchens.

Most of the conversations led to a few minutes of good-hearted banter about where NT is heading. I had two questions about whether a new stadium was in the future.

Scott, I'll try to help you out here; just because it's you.

There are no Pickens or Kitchens. For now, I'm going to assume that the name ends in 'n' or 'ns'. If so, here are the one's who lettered under Hayden:

Walter Chapman

David Deaton

Sam Golden

Ollie Green

Lee Harrington

Louis Holman

Vance Jackson

Charles Johnson

Dennis Lemmons

Lavene Norman

Bobby Owen

Michael Wilkerson

Courtney Anderson

Stan Blackmon

John Brown

Charles Clemons

Don Fechtman

J.T. Hollins

Lavelle Jenkins

Paul Martin

Ken Washington

John Atkins

Jeff Brown

Burks Washington

Larry Dixon

Tim Loftin

Marty Morrison

Michael Wilkerson

Fred Gordon

Marvin Hagan

David Hagerman

James McCurin

Jonathan Newton

Joe Stevenson

I eliminated the late Bernard Jackson and Greg Davidson, whom we know is in the Houston area.

If this doesn't work, I'll publish the entire list.

Mr Fincher and SE,

Waaaayyyy above the call of duty. Thanks.

My wife or mother in law (who met him also) will probably recognize the name from that list, but I am going to guess it was either Lemmons, Jenkins or Clemons. He was a light-skinned black guy, a big guy with a great smile. Man, I am an idiot for never remembering names, but the guy made such a nice impression on me that I didn't even pay attention to the name.
