Now Dodge 2007 is talking like it would be the worst tragedy this program has seen if he were to transfer. Am i missing something or has this kid thrown a college pass yet?

What I want to know is where Tune could transfer that he wouldn't have to compete against another QB?? Are there really any teams out there that would hand Tune (or any other player) a starting position without any threat of competition whatsoever??

I hope both Vizza and Rodge turn out to be great QBs but, hey...let's face it...if either one of them were the second coming of Vince Young, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart or Tom Brady (or any other highly-touted HS QB recruit), would they really be coming to UNT??

No one will ever convince me that just because Rodge is coming to UNT, no decent QB will give UNT a second thought until he's gone. Time may prove be wrong but I won't concede to that until after the fact. I don't understand why some people are so convinced that quality QBs will look elsewhere to avoid competition for the position. It is the opinion of many with coaching "knowledge" that TD is a terrific QB coach and knows how to get maximum production from the QB position. I repeat my prediction that if UNT QBs (whomever that may be) have the same kind of success that SLC QBs did, you'll be seeing more and more top QB prospects commit to UNT.

Dodge2007 - Why do you keep you questioning TD's coaching integrity?? Do you truly believe that TD would sacrifice the success of the team and play Riley over someone that is clearly better than him?? Did you get benched on one of your childhood sports teams in favor of the coach's son??

as we all know, "Daddy Ball" is a given in youth sports and even happens in high school. hope not at the D1 level. a family livelyhood depends on winning and professional reputations are much more visible/known at college level vs high school. TD will put the best player at each position. if his son is the best at a given position (incl QB) then so be it. as i said before, time will tell. doesn't it always?

Sometimes I wonder if everyone on this board with a North Texas related screen name is really a fan or just a wolf in sheep's clothing trying to stir things up

Who are talking about, me or Dodge2007?

Liked I said in previous posts, I think Riley is awesome for UNT football. It is just my opinion that it MIGHT keep us from getting another quality kid. Look at Texas for example, when a kid is used to playing and being the man on the team (Snead), and is told he will be a back-up, they look elsewhere. No one like Riley or Vizza will play second fiddle.

So you think a third QB like Meager or Tune will want to sit? Not one that is capable of playing at the next level or even D-1 AA level. Look at the situation at A&M, Dustin Long vs. Reggie McNeal. Fran goes with the athlete instead of the QB. Long doesn't want to sit and goes on to Sam Houston and becomes an All-American.

That is my point in this debate. Hell If Tune, Meager, Vizza all want to sit next season, so be it and we are in good shape. I just do no think that all of those will do so. And in the future, if Riley or Vizza starts as true freshman, how are we going to attract more talent?

You tell me how. Dodge has already said he is going to recruit one QB every recruiting season.

If Tune, Vizza, and Riley, and then two more kids stay on, god bless our program. IT would be unusual, imo.

Who knows maybe I am the big bad wolf who instead of wearing Green, wears Red, white, and blue down the road...... Pony up?

Since I have been on this site, I have been called a Meager lover, a Woody trader, and a coach on the UNT staff......... hell I am confused who I am now.

I know.......... I am really part of Quoner's posse. I do know that I am Quoner's bitch, cause he added me to his sig. line.

Really, I call myself Dodge2007 because if I went with Phil Bennett you guys would give me all kinds of hell.

The article says that Riley became the 5th straight Southlake QB to win offesnsive player of the year. Those were 5 different QBs that had been groomed over years. If you look back at how things were managed at SLC, sometimes the backup QB in the system would play a receiver role in his junior year. That might not be as feasible in college, but he does show a history of effectively managing the QB situation.

Also, look back at Dodge's career at Texas where he had high expectations that sometimes overshadowed a successful career. I'm sure that will impact his decision about his own son's playing time.

Bad choice to use Texas as an example. Snead is a wussy and couldn't take it. Even without Snead, Texas will still pull in a good amount of the top QB prospects from the state, year after year. Sure you will have a Snead, but you will also have Major Applewhite type guys that stick to it even with a Chris Simms on their heels. I'll take Applewhite over Long and Snead anyday.

Don't be so thin skinned. If you put it out there, expect to be slapped down. We've all been through that. Just ask Playmaker.

I was quoting you because you wrote what I was think about Dodge2007.

I've actually wondered the same thing myself. He does seem to enjoy ruffling feathers with his matter-of-fact opinions and somewhat skewed assessments of Mean Green football.

I was about to say something similar regarding Texas and Snead. You can add to that an example from last year in which UT lost the nation's #1 QB recruit and "Gatorade National Player of the Year (2007), John Brantley, to Florida who...oh, by the way...has a pretty good returning QB in Sophomore, Tim Tebow. Texas then went out and signed one the state of Texas' best QB prospects in G.J. Kinne who decommitted from Baylor, where his father is a coach. G.J. Kinne made the decision to play football at UT as a QB even though a Sophomore, Colt McCoy, is firmly entrenched as UT's QB for the next few years.

USC seems to be another one of those unusual anamolies in which quality QBs seem to migrate to, almost as if by tractor beam. How do you explain the plethora of great QBs they've had recently in Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart and now John David Booty, with another Heisman candidate, Mark Sanchez, waiting in the wings?? Here's a nice article on the competition of quality QBs at USC over the last several years and just how that competition serves as a motivation to perform better: Friendship, competition motivates USC QBs to perform

What is Rick and especially Woody supposed to say...........

Woody better say the right things or his ass will stay on the bench. Riley's signing has no bearing on him. They should have asked Tune or Vizza what they thought of the oral commitment. Our Redshirt and true freshman just got hosed (blood is thicker than water).

An "A" bomb was just dropped on those poor kids.

Also in the future, UNT attracts no QB for at least two seasons that is worth a damn. Why would you come here with the 4A player of the year (Vizza) and the 5A player of the year (Rodge)?

Nonsense post.

So now you're suggesting that Woody WILL start? I don't get it.

In all seriousness, what makes you so convinced that Woody won't be our starter this year? I'm not convinced that he will but you won't see me throwing it out there that he has no chance...unless I offer up some really damn good credentials or it's announced that I've been made a part of the coaching staff. And don't give me this "he played the least in the spring game" crap because so did J-Mo. Also, don't give me this "he's an athlete but he's not accurate enough" because, if you've seen a shred of tape from our games last season we didn't exactly have John Elway under center at ANY point.

Add Mitch Mustain to that number.

From what I have seen, I personally would start Woody, at least at the beginning of the year. I have a feeling, regardless of who is our QB at OU, Vizza will take the first snap at FIU.

Jesus H. Christ, judging by your name and comments, Dodge has already brought a National Championship to North Texas. :rolleyes1:

Remember, he's still got to win with DD's recruits for the next couple of years.

Regardless of how Woody ends up, he will always be known as the MVP in the win vs SMU at Fouts. The 60 yd scamper where he turned on the jets to th endzone always gives me warm fuzzies (Too bad my wife just gave birth to my son, 4 more weeks of deprivation  ). :D

I agree wholeheartedly GangGreen. While we are at it, lets add Mitch Mustain to that wussy status. Definitely not putting Rodge in this category, but have seen too often where HS QBs come out with tons of stats and media accolades to the point of becoming "premadonas". Its almost like they expect to be given the starting position without having to work for it. When it is not given, they fly the coup. I feel that this is a character flaw and certainly not a sign of a leader. Snead was one snap away from being the starter at Texas. Go figure his thought process. Mustain, well, maybe he is just not that good since a unknown nationally QB from Allen, TX can go in and beat him out. There certainly can be extenuating circumstances but I have to question character and leadership in almost all cases of the "ship jumpers".
