Amen. TD is the best thing to ever happen to this football team. And, he has not even coached a single college game yet.

I know, Hayden Fry was awesome. But, his tenure was far too short and the football program tanked afterwards..

Thank you Rick for making a terrific hire.

I don't mean to belittle what Hayden Fry did. If he had stayed around for a few more years, things might be very different today.

nonono, that's not what I was laughing at. Fry was here for 6 years. Your original statement implies Todge has already bettered Fry because of longevity and resurrecting the program permanently.

I guess it's just me. Sorry, slow day at work. ;)

No, you are correct. My statement was indeed a little misleading and/or misinformed. I have only been a fan since '84. Since then, I have seen nothing like this around here. It is hard to remain objective, after seeing all of the positive recruiting news for 2008.

Key dates

Players and coaches will stay busy in the coming months. Some dates are called "quiet" periods, where a player is allowed to make in-person visits to a college campus. Coaches are allowed to write or call, too, but can't visit a player's school or watch a game. That can change during "contact" periods. Other dates are referred to as "dead" periods, where coaches can't personally have contact with a player but may write or call him and his parents. Upcoming dates include:

Aug. 1-Nov. 24, 2007: Quiet period

Nov. 25-Feb. 2, 2008: Contact period (except as noted)

Dec. 16, 2007: Quiet period

Dec. 17-Jan. 3, 2008: Dead period

Jan. 4-6, 2008: Quiet period

Jan. 7-10, 2008: Dead period

Jan. 11-12, 2008: Quiet period

Feb. 3, 2008: Quiet period

Feb. 4-7, 2008: Dead period

Feb. 8, 2008: Signing Day
