UNT offseason workouts

Joe Hubbard checked in with a question today about the North Texas football team's voluntary offseason workouts. In short, he wanted to know if there were any going on.

The answer is, yes. UNT's players are actively getting ready for the season. Just today, incoming freshman quarterback Giovanni Vizza was on the practice fields outside the Mean Green Athletic Center throwing passes to a group of five or six receivers. Vizza is one of several incoming freshmen who are already on campus.

UNT's coaches are not allowed much in the way of contact with players in terms of offseason workouts, but there is little doubt the players are taking matters into their own hands.

On most days when one walks by the athletic department there are players filtering in and out of the weight room and on and off of the practice fields. Several remained in Denton this summer to get ready for their first season playing for Todd Dodge.

Thanks Old Timer, MG61 and Vito. Who's Joe Hubbard? I asked the question earlier and got somewhat of a reply...it certainly doesn't seem like these "voluntary" workouts have the same structure and organization as UTs, but I guess it is encouraging nonetheless to know that the team isn't sitting around eating donuts and watching TV. I'm very glad to hear that Vizza is already on campus and getting formally acquainted with the receivers. The timing between a QB and WR is very crucial to the success of the passing game.

it's good he gets familiar with the campus, facilities, coaches, staff too. can they be given play books early to start memorizing?
