As a redshirt freshman the kid is No. 2 on the depth chart of the Big 12 school he grew up dreaming of playing for. He knew he would have to play behind Freeman at K-State when he made the decision to spurn the Mean Green. I'd say things are going just the way he expected at K-State. Coffman is one injury away from being the starting quarterback of his dream school. Plus, Freeman could bolt to the NFL in two seasons and Coffman would have the inside track of winning the job outright as a junior. I doubt he sits around wishing he had come to UNT. Plus, what if he had come here and helped Dickey win just enough games to keep his job. How bad would that suck? I'd say things have worked out well for Coffman and UNT.

Strange read, you think being projected as second team quarterback at a Big Twelve school after your red shirt year is below being one of many QB's at NT. The significance of losing this player along with other recruiting blunders in DD's last class may have been the proverbial last straw that persuaded the Administration that there had to be changes. Coffman was apparently targeted by DD as his QB recruit that year and even though he had no other offers he chose to walk on at KSU (actually Grayshirt). Everyone loses players but the problem is that DD did not apparently have any other backup QB's he could recruit even though it was obvious that he was not satisfied with his current QB's. Add the lost of Tanner a local Dallas player to the Muts, another player a fullback was lost to 1aa McNeese and evenually losing his two most touted recruits. Trent Stanley a Juco second team AA offensive lineman who did not make it through spring training and Tim Patton a defensive lineman out of Tulsa who chose to go to NEO forfeiting his NT ship.

It's no real shock DD couldn't recruit a highly touted QB. His run first, second and third approach hurt him there.

What really surprises me is that he was not able to capitalize on recruiting defense based on the success of his 2-3 year run with Booger et al. Losing DeLoach to Cali must have hurt more than he thought.

GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BEAT THE HELL OUT OF OU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
