Just another reason UNT needs to upgrade across the board (and across the prairie at the Mean Green Village). Maybe its those sort of things that will help our HS seniors-to-be early committments suddenly gain an extra star from recruiting services? Those recruiting gurus are enamored with Big Time Schools and sell their services mostly to their constituencies, not a handful of non-BCS schools. Rivals knows where they need to put all their star power (so to speak).

Boise State (from what I've read) has rarely had any of their recruiting classes ranked high by Rivals. Well.......................so what? Boomer Barry Switzer said more than once during the OU/BSU bowl game that OU had recruited not even one Boise State football player; although, he did seem to slow down on that particular theme as the game continued. :surrender:

PERHAPS THE UPSIDE OF ALL THIS NO MATTER HOW RIVALS RANKS OUR EARLY RECRUITS? And that is new Mean Green Head Football Coach Todd Dodge & his fine staff of assistants will develop many 2 star recruits coming out of high school into 3 and 4 star college football players. Guess that is when all this star power business will really add up the most for UNT, right? Also, I think we will be able to depend on our UNT coaching staff (over recruiting gurus) to know which HS players out there have the true pedigree to make it at the NCAA D1-A level.

Lance Dunbar was just given a two star rating this afternoon and the same Rivals Ranking as Troy Franklin - 5.4.

I happened to refresh the page about half an hour after I saw Troy's ranking.

That's just the way it is, folks.

Rivals has Riley Dodge listed at 6-0 188lbs. They will probably give him 3 stars. If he would have committed to us, he would be listed at 5-10 170lbs. (which is probably closer to reality) and be given two stars at best.

I think the best way to look at recruiting is:

1. The results years later (I like the way that Dave Campbell analyzes this every year).

2. What/how many schools are actively recruiting/offering the same player.

3. How he plays on the field in high school.

That's my thought.

It used to be the big term was "blue-chip" player. How many blue chips did your program sign? I don't put any stock in this current "star" system since a school they commit to affects it, not just ability. Many lesser players mature to become better college players than the "stars" anyway. I trust Dodge knows what he likes in a player when he sees it. There was an interesting article about him being able to pick out who was the Jr. High QB just by watching kids walk out after school.

      And even if we support our team by watching them on TV or streaming, the TV audience can't see us, the team can't see us, and the team can't hear our support. If it's possible to get to the game, we need to be there in person not only to get the better in-person experience, but to show our support to others. GMG!

      Are we sure he’s just not emphasizing the sentence incorrectly? Are you sure it shouldn’t be interpreted as welcoming America (the public) to Denton?

      Women vs. South Florida (1/11/25)

      Complete reversal of our game against Tulane when we almost came back from a huge deficit, only to lose. This time we were "Tulane" and almost lost it after a huge lead. Kudos to freshman Price who made some crucial free throws at the end of the game. Also to Lampkin, not a good free throw shooter, who made several of hers toward the end to match an overal strong game. We do need to work on breaking the press and being more careful with our passes, which too often are sloppy and lead to turnovers and easy baskets. Overall, though, happy with the win. It will be more difficult when we play them at their home. Hopefully we will be a full strength and reduced our turnovers before then. Next up is Rice at home on Wednesday. Look out for Karen Aston's UTSA team...they are undefeated in conference play, we know she is a good coach, and they have beaten us several times lately. We need to keep improving our play to match last season. GMG!

      Lampkin Matches Career High in 72-65 Win Over USF

      DENTON, Texas — The UNT women’s basketball team handed South Florida its first American Athletic Conference loss with a 72-65 victory at the Super Pit on Saturday afternoon. Tommisha Lampkin led the team with 29 points, tying a career high. She previously scored 29 versus UTEP on February 18, 2023, and Tulsa on Feb. 24. 2024. The conference leader in field goal percentage improved her season average, converting on 11-of-12 shots from the field and 7-of-10 attempts from the free throw line. North Texas (12-5, 4-1 AAC) took a 33-21 lead into halftime, marking the largest halftime deficit for the Bulls (11-7, 4-1 AAC) since they trailed by 12 against No. 3 South Carolina on Dec. 15. USF’s 21 points were the lowest point total they have tallied in the first half this season. “I thought we followed the game plan to a tee as far as how we wanted to guard,” head coach Jason Burton said. “We just got contributions from a lot of people.” Jaaucklyn Moore scored 14 points on the day, marking the first time she has scored double-digit points in consecutive games since Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, 2023, when she posted 17 versus Samford and 16 versus North Dakota State. UNT’s lead got as large as 24 points before USF launched a comeback in the fourth quarter, getting as close as within five points. However, Chania Price and Lampkin combined to make eight free throws down the stretch to seal the win for the Mean Green. Up next, UNT has a rematch with Rice, who knocked them out of the 2024 American Athletic Conference tournament, on Jan. 15 at the Super Pit. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcasted on the Varsity Network App with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
