Men's basketball: Jackson released from North Texas after injury-plagued junior season

07:25 AM CDT on Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Jonathan Jackson, a 6-8 forward who would have been a senior on the North Texas men’s basketball team next season, has been released from his scholarship and left the program.

Jackson battled injuries throughout his one season with the Mean Green after transferring from Mineral Area Community College in Missouri. He averaged 0.8 points and 1.3 rebounds a game while playing in nine games with the Mean Green.

Jackson averaged 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds a game in his sophomore season at Mineral Area before signing with UNT.

Jackson is the second UNT player to leave the program in the last three days. UNT head coach Johnny Jones confirmed on Saturday that backup point guard Michael Sturns had been released from his scholarship and intended to transfer.

UNT set a school record for wins in a season while finishing 23-11 and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament last season.
