George Odufuwa planned to sit down with his high school coach Royce Johnson on Thursday night to talk about where he might transfer, a source with knowledge of the situation said early Thursday. The source went on to say the former Dallas Kimball standout was leaning toward committing to North Texas and planned to make a decision in the next few days.</H3>Johnson, a former Mean Green player, declined to comment other than to say UNT was high on Odufuwa's list. UNT hosted Odufuwa on a visit to campus earlier this week.

If the 6-7 power forward follows through and transfers from Arizona State to UNT, the Mean Green would have the big man it has been looking for to cap what would without a doubt be the best recruiting class of Johnny Jones' tenure at UNT that is entering its seventh season.

Odufuwa was ranked No. 19 in Texashoops.com's list of the top players in the state in the class of 2006. UNT has already secured a commitment from Brewster Academy guard/small forward Tristan Thompson, who was ranked No. 18 in the same class after his senior year at Angleton. Point guard Josh White is ranked No. 10 in the class of 2007 in Louisiana and Midland College transfer Ryan McCoy was No. 40 in Texas in the class of 2005. Throw in Mesa (Ariz.) Community College shooting guard Adam McCoy, who was one of the top 3-point shooters in the junior college ranks last season, and UNT would have a standout class.

Odufuwa would have to sit out a season after transferring, but would immediately fill the void in the Mean Green's frontcourt left by the graduation of Keith Wooden and Quincy Williams after next season.

UNT could play Odufuwa at the center spot with Harold Stewart at power forward and have Justin Howerton available to come off the bench.

Adding Odufuwa would leave UNT over the scholarship limit, a situation the Mean Green would have to work through in the next few months. Just don't expect that to be a deterrent if UNT can land a fifth player for its recruiting class.

Harold Edwards decided to transfer after last season and could be just the first of a few players who depart to find a school where they would get more playing time.

Well yeah, someone else is going to have to leave....otherwise we wouldn't have a spot for Odufuwa.

Scholarships are renewable every year. I don't know who JJ would not renew, but that could be were he gets the ship from.

Let's hope that if's J.J. Jackson that leaves. He's never been healthy enough to get hardly any PT. In fact, he's played in very few games since his high school days in Portland, and that was five years ago. It's not that he doesn't have talent, I just hate to see a scholarship wasted on a player who appeared in about six games last year and may not be able to do any better this coming year.

I don't think Edwards has officially transferred in the sense that he has not signed on with another team, but I think he has been released from his scholarship. I also hope that is someone leaves it would be Jackson. He has not played much and nothing has changed at his position, he'll still at best the third option off the best at the 4 or 5 spot.
