So, I just read an article in the last or next to last SI (boxing cover). The sport of women's flag football is being played under UIL in Florida and Alaska and gaining a lot of support and growing like crazy. So much that the traditional sports of track and softball are not drawing as many at the schools that offer flag football in the spring. The QB in the picture was pretty hot too. In the article, a statement from one girl is that she got so into it that she picked another girl up and slammed her to the ground. She just got into the competitive moment! That made me ask...

Why not just let the girls play contact football and give them pads? They are playing against their own, let 'em get after it.

Is it just a social barrier, expense of buying equipment, etc.? Or would it be plain boring? They would probably draw just as many at a track event or softball event.

Figured I could get plenty of opinions from this board on the subject. Fire away!

Personally, I could go for some girl on girl football! :D

Girls are already allowed to play on the schools football team. WTAMU just signed Saginaw's placekicker to play soccer . The kicker happens to be a girl. She will play for the girls soccer team.

I watched a women's full contact football game at Fouts in the mid-70's. It was I believe the Dallas Diamonds against the Ft. Worth Shamrocks? One of the teams had like a 350 pounder playing line, #747 on her jersey! It was pretty slow paced but funny when they got into fights, and there were many catfights.

Hey, let's add it at the college level too! It would be another women's sport for Title IX...Oh, instead, let's just kill another men's sport like we did the "winningest" program in the history of UNT...Men's soccer! I say, put them in full pads...give them say 75 full scholarships....that wouldn't cost much....Sorry...the sarcasm stuff doesn't come across well on-line.

How about just telling the girls that they can't play football, just like they tell the guys that they can't participate on the girls volleyball teams? I have never understood this. Michelle Wie wants to play on the Men's tour....what about the guys that can't make the men's PGA tour, but can make the women's - should they just start playing there? No.
