Glad it passed, but sad it will be a part of UNT-Dallas and not the main campus. :(

Since this is the case than North Texas still does not have a law school as far as I am concerned. Once they have their 1000 students, they become their own university (right?). Being happy about this would be no different than UT being happy UTEP got a law school.

Hope I am wrong.

I thought the law school was supposed to be separate from the UNT Dallas campus. Many laws schools (at least i think so) are "separate" from the main campus. I guess what I mean is that the law school would essentially be set up just like UNT DALLAS. Maybe I'm crazy..... It is supposed to be in the old town hall building

is that even close to the unt dallas campus?

But what school is it affiliated with - UNT or UNTD?

It's affiliated with NORTH TEXAS and that's all that matters. You're getting your pharm degree right? Where are you doing that Denton or some other town?

Amarillo and Dallas.

I am sure UT is beating their chests about UTA's new programs.

UNT Health Sciences is not a part of the Denton campus, yet I claim that UNT has a Medical School. I don't see the law school at being different.

I do to. It is common to have your health care entities in a seperate school. They came along much before the jaguars were ever thought of.

I see that logo and I just want to throw up in my mouth. Thank goodness it'll be gone in a couple years and be replaced with yet another horrid design.

If you have a law school in Dallas, than we (UT Arlington) have a medical school in Dallas.

Hardly. UTSW (This is where my wife goes to medical school... ) has anything to do with UTSA, UTEP, UT, UTMB, UTPB, etc etc.

UNT is a different beast (for now). We are NOT the size of a small country, so we really are part of the same "system."

Fact check: The bill says the law school will be a unit of the UNT System until UNT-Dallas becomes its own school. Then it becomes a school of UNT-Dallas.

At that point the law school will have basically no operational connection to UNT-Denton. The dean of the law school will report to the president of UNT-Dallas, who will report directly to the chancellor, just like Dr. B does now, and the same way all the UT System presidents (including Austin) report to the UT System chancellor.

When that happens, it won't be accurate to call Denton the main campus and Dallas a satellite. They'll be completely separate colleges, like it or not.

That said, who cares?

You can piss and moan about where it is but the bottom line is it now will exist. Huge Jackson win in my opinion. To land the only public law school in a city the size and scope of Dallas is a big win for us.

This is primarily Royce West's work. We should be thankful that he is working for us to get the school since he graduated with two degrees from UTA and played football there. The UNT name on the school is what is most important.

As long as the grads from there think of themselves as Mean Green I am happy.

We should try to get Royce to help us sew up a Cotton Bowl series during the State Fair with another school. Perhaps he could work with Sen. Rodney Ellis from Houston to try to get a series with UH and find a sponser for the game.

I couldn't agree more. DFW needs a public school. This is an achievement, regardless of its eventual affiliation.

my neighbor is an aTm - CC graduate but thinks of herself as an Aggie and hangs an aTm flag outside her house in the fall. I'd guess folks that attend the law school will think of themselves as UNT students. That beig said, I wish they'd keep it as part of Denton so there's no question.

It should be a part of the Denton flagship campus. That not being the case will almost be as short-sighted down the road as letting San Marcos take the Texas State name. UNT Law School = GOOD, not directly affiliated with Denton = BAD!!!

Actually, we do need more bandwagon fans....

i know, i was using sarcasm to illustrate my opinion that we need all the fans we can get... I would all but expect UNT-Dallas fans to be UNT sports fans. They are in the same market, they dont have any sports teams, and wont have any on the same level for a good while.

Uh, oh, Zeke. That's not going to make you a Red Raider soon, is it?
