He's ranked # 25 by Texas Hoops but not signed and showed an interest in NT. Rivals showed he had an offer from NT. but haven't heard anything about him.

Smith played in a series of all-star games in Houston last weekend for unsigned seniors. I understand that UNT was there to watch him. A summary of Smith and other unsigned seniors. (courtesy of TRB)

The Usual Suspects:

Mark Politte, Jordan Smith, Cedric Henderson, and Adam Brown were thought to be the best four players in the event going into Saturday and none of them disappointed on the 7th.

Politte, a 6-2 PG from Houston Washington is one of the more gifted players in the state. He's extremely long and athletic, and blessed with great court vision and ball skills. He repeatedly drilled treys from 25-30 feet on Saturday afternoon like it was nothing. If he's not the best guard in the state right now, he certainly has the highest upside.

Jordan Smith, a 6-4 SG from Dallas God's Academy didn't put up huge numbers on Saturday but he was solid. He's a big time scorer with deep range, and he handles and passes it well enough to play some 1.

Henderson, a 5-11 PG from Houston Furr continued to show that he's the best pure point in the '07 class. His ball handling and passing skills are in the elite range right now. He shoots it well enough and he's athletic enough to make a case for being the best guard in the class as well.

Brown continued his assault on anyone and everyone. The 6-4 San Antonio Churchill product is a tremendous athlete with a great skill set. He's a tremendous jump shooter especially on mid-range pull ups.

6-1 Huntsville PG/SG Michael Williams checked in for a 3 game stint and left no doubt that he too should be mentioned among the elite in the class. He's a tremendous athlete with great range and good guard skills.

A trio of 6-6 top 50 seniors had fine showings on Saturday as well.

Waco University 6-6 wing LaDunn Huckaby showed off his versatile, skilled perimeter game. He's tough to defend and he has the mid-range pull up down.

DeSoto 6-6 PF Jeremy Fonteneaux had a huge day on Saturday. He was impossible to guard at the event. He tallied 36 points in 24 minutes in one game.

College Station A&M Consolidated 6-6 PF Sean Jones finished strong on Saturday. He's very long and skilled and should be a great college player.

6-6 Seguin SF/PF Michael Martin is just outside the top 50. He played great on Saturday as well. He's a great combination of skill, strength and athletic ability.

6-6 Houston Sharpstown PF/SF Jeremy Dean came into the event ranked 113th (and ranked ONLY by TexasRoundball) in the '07 class. He'll leave it easily among the top 50. We knew Dean could shoot, handle and that he was very athletic, but no one knew he was so smooth and that he'd be able to do it on this stage. He brought down the house several times with huge dunks and followed them up by knocking down jumpers.

6-5 Dallas Lincoln SF Leonard Donnell missed the 2nd half of the season with a broken foot. His comeback party was definitely a party on Saturday. The lefty shot it well, handled it well and finished drives. He's a great athlete and clearly is coming on strong as a prospect.

6-0 Houston Kashmere PG/SG Patrick Hughey was one of the most impressive players at the event. He's a great shooter who gets great lift and rotation. He excels at creating his own shot and has a lethal first step. Definitely a top 50 player in the state.

6-4 DeSoto PF/SF Murray Shaw has dropped 10-15 pounds and it shows. He's still a tweener but he's solid at both spots. He shot it well and played extremely hard (averaging well over 22 ppg.).

5-11 Rockwall PG/SG Braxton Adamson drilled 8 threes in one game and six in another. He's always been a big time shooter and he did enough other things to earn some new recruiting interest.

6-2 Grand Prairie Shady Grove SG Shay Wilson showed off a nice skill set and great athleticism. He's long and lean and blessed with a tremendous handle. He left everyone off the dribble and finished some tough drives including some with dunks.

6-6 Lytle PF/SF Justin Berry had a huge day as well. He's a good athlete who shoots it well. If he continues to improve his ball skills, he could play some on the wing.

6-7 San Antonio Reagan PF John Mark Ludwick had a solid day as well. He played much quicker and showed that he can play inside as well as out (where he nailed some of his patented spot up j's).

Brandon Webster and A&M have parted ways. Up to 2 weeks ago, Bryan Coach Reese and Ambassadors Coach Ivany had been led to believe that A&M wanted Webster. When Gillispie left or even before, something obviously changed. The 6-9 Webster from Bryan High is on the market looking for a new school.

6'3", shooting guard, Jordan Smith had one year of credits to finish before graduating from his high school, Colleyville Heritage. But when the UIL ruled him ineligible to participate as a senior, he opt to attend God's Academy. At the beginning of the year it was known that he was reclassified as 2008, but just a few hours short of completing his high school degree, Smith wants college coaches to know that he is part of the class of 2007, and his recruitment is open.

"I will graduate in May," said Smith. "I want coaches to know that I am wide open with my recruiting. I think that I have shown that I can play and so I don't know why I am not getting many calls."

An Illinois native, Smith made his way south to Austin where as a freshman, he attended Round Rock McNeil, where he was a post player. Unhappy with playing on the block, Smith made his way north to Colleyville where he emerged as a top shooting guard in Texas. But after learning that he was unable to compete at the UIL level, Smith had to once again take a different route.

"I looked at going to Brewster Academy and San Antonio Cornerstone, but that would mean that my family and I would have to move again. I felt that it wouldn't be a wise thing to do for just one year. God's Academy was the best option for me and that meant that I could stay close to home, play basketball and finish my degree."

Smith mentioned that God's Academy does have a curriculum and certified teachers. "It is like going to any other school. It is certified by the state and I will graduate in May."

By the end of last year's basketball season at Colleyville Heritage and heading into the summer, Smith was receiving letters and a few calls. "Liberty, Lamar, Ball State, Wichita State, Illinois State, and Drake, sent me letters. Texas Tech had sent me a questionnaire." But that list has diminished.

"I am not sure why more colleges aren't looking at me," said a confused Smith. "I am a qualifier and will be willing to go anywhere to play ball at any level." Smith has heard from North Texas and Colin County, and took an official visit to Liberty which he really enjoyed. "I would like to talk to them (Liberty) again. I am not ruling anyone out at this point."

Smith just wants the chance to play basketball next year and will prove it to a college program. "I want to earn my chance to play. If it is at a D-I, D-II, or Junior College, I am willing to keep all doors open."

Head coach Tim Miller, of God's Academy, says that he has gotten calls on Smith's recruitment. "Baylor, Iowa State, Texas A&M, and Arizona have all shown interest in him," said Miller. "He has visited Baylor and will be heading to A&M to see them play."

Texas Hoops Analysis:JORDAN is an outstanding shooter with range beyond the three point line, can put the ball on the floor to get by a defender. Can lead the break, has good handles, will rebound, has a nice long body with length, is a good perimeter defender.
