Spring Scrimmage News And Notes

- Gilmore changed his number from 9 to 94. Looks very promising at the end.

- They had Drake playing starting center and were looking at Rose at guard. My understanding was that they would be switching out but I saw more of Bryan Glass at center than I did Rose who seemed to be playing more guard.

- Shotgun snap is still shaky but will get better with time.

- Aaron Weathers missed the scrimmage because he had a class at the same time.

- Riley Dodge and his girlfriend were in attendance. Interesting to note Riley's girlfriend is playing volleyball at UNT next year.

- OT Josh Alexander has been cleared to run again but will get limited live snaps if any this Spring.

- OT is a huge issue need position as it was learned that Jeremy Brown has decided to quit and not return for his senior year.

- DE Chase Pistole also has hung up his cleats. My understanding is that he and Brown are enrolling in the police academy so good luck to them.

- WR Jamal Wynne (5-10, 175, 4.4) from Jacksonville, TX

- Jon Ieans fans will be glad to know that he has returned to the program after a 1-year stint at Southern Arkansas. He is now playing receiver for North Texas as a walk-on.

- Ajani Banks is not participating in Spring due to focusing on his grades

- DB Gary Oubre is back!!!

A couple of questions...

- Is Venegas playing this spring?

- Is Jamal Wynne related to the Wynne from Jacksonville that signed with North Texas but

ended up going to Texas Tech (about 10 years ago)?

- Is Gary Oubre now playing WR? I seemed to remember a #1 in white.

Concerns:

1. Offensive Tackle.

2. Ajani Banks, please get your grades in order.

3. Brown and Pistole being taken "under wing" by emmitt.

4. Brown leaving the team.

Great to hear that Alexander is up and running. I'd heard that his injury might end his career.

Yes Venegas was starting at I think left guard alongside Menard. Peachy was out with a minor injury so Tyler Bailey was filling in at right tackle. I think they are looking at Menard and Peachy as the tackles for the future I just don't know if they are ready yet. Menard was being schooled by a healthy Jeremiah Chapman. I like their potential size and ability. Oubre is playing backup corner.

Sounds like a couple of scholarships just opened up. Maybe that can entice some late qualifying JC players this fall or can be used for deserving walkons.
