Cowboys to host Giants in opener

Monday, March 26, 2007

The Dallas Morning News

PHOENIX – Combine the Cowboys, New York and a national television audience and you have a preview of Wade Phillips' inaugural season as head coach.

The NFL announced at its annual spring meeting Monday that the Cowboys will host both New York teams on national television in 2007.

The Cowboys will open the season Sept. 9 on Sunday night against the Giants and also play on Thanksgiving Day against the Jets.

NBC will broadcast the opener and CBS will telecast the traditional Thanksgiving Day game. It marks the first time the Cowboys will open the season at home since 2003.

"I'm glad we’ll be able to play New York in both of those games," Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. "We'll get that big New York, East Coast audience."

The Nov. 22 game against the Jets will mark the second time in four seasons Julius and Thomas Jones will play against each other on Thanksgiving. In 2004, Julius ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries in the Cowboys' 21-7 win against Chicago. Thomas, picked up in an off-season trade by the Jets, ran for 46 yards on 14 carries.

The opener against the Giants will mark the fourth time in the last five years the teams have met in prime time.

The remainder of the schedule will be announced next month.
