In case anyone is wondering Memphis spent $4,438,773 and ranked #26 in the nation in BB dollars spent. At Memphis, BB accounts for 16% of Athletic Department spending. At North Texas, basketball spending is 7% of the total.

What really hurts most IMO is the low pay for assistant coaches. While he was at UTEP, Billy Gillespie hired away Alvin Brooks. Brooks recruited Calvin Watson and Kendrick Davis and he is known as one of the the best Houston area recruiters.

Here is a quote from Gillespie. “Alvin is one of the best coaches I’ve ever been around. He’s unbelievable in his relationships with young people. He’s one of the most outstanding coaches and recruiters in basketball.”
