Sorry, for the week old news, but I have been playing catch up this week after skipping out on work last week in favor of New Orleans...

Once again, the Pit Crew (I assume that is who was on the second level above our section) wow-ed us all during the game in New Orleans by beginning an "overrated" chant during the first half against Memphis.

Anyone know why? Last time this happened (@ home vs WKU) I apparently "missed" the inside joke, just wondering if it happened to me (and everyone else around us) again...

If this was the Pit Crew, shouldn't they, as the "official student section for UNT", at least know when and when not to throw that out?

LOL, yeah the last time they did that we had a 21 point lead on WKU that ended up a 2 point deficit 10 minutes later. But the PC folks were great just the same. I was truly greatful to see them up there in N.O. stirring up such a ruckus! An experience that will last a lifetime for them for sure.

Make no mistake, I am very glad that they were all there representing. This was not meant as an indictment on all the Pit Crew members, just kinda goes with what we were talking about in the Traditions thread in the Football section. We need some more chants to do during games so that we can avoid embarrassing ourselves as we continue our endeavor to grow into a "big time" athletics program!

That was not Pit Crew, it was people behind us. We told them to stop considering it was a little early into the game to start that chant, plus chanting that in the beginning of the game is never the best way to go considering we then got our butts kicked in the second half.

lol.....as soon as that chant started.....I FREAKED OUT!.....i told the people behind us to cut it out....and asked them if they remembered the WKU game...hahaha. It wasn't the Pit Crew and it wasn't Talons! Its ashame that school wasn't canceled that friday so that we could get more students out to the game (all painted-up)! I'm hoping for a great football season so that we can go back to New Orleans for the bowl game.

Welcome to GMG.com Rockquitarist4life. Great name by the way.

Question for ya.

What's the feeling on campus about this team. And do you get the feeling that the word has/will spread enough to the dorms that more students will want to come out and enjoy the games next year? I would expect, now, that more people will hear about the great times y'all had this year and will want to take part next season?

Yeah, seems as if more and more people are caring. My roomate said our govt teacher let out class early on friday to watch the game.... so thats a start. I think this, coupled with the hopeful success of the football team, and the creation of a baseball squad will lead to a more athletically in tune campus,

Word will spread throughout campus. I am already working with Talons to start posting flyers and chalking up the side walks like we used to.

Rick-

The campus is excited about the basketball team reaching the NCAA tournament. I've seen more enthusiasm over this basketball team than the football team in the last three years. I think the word has spread about UNT basketball on campus in all aspects. From Greek Life all the way to the artsy kids that hang out at Art 6 Coffee House. Even though we had a winning season I think that the enthusiasm will go away if we don't continue to promote our athletic programs and get more students involved with athletics.

Right now the hype is huge for basketball after winning the SBC, and the upcoming football season with todd dodge/under armour contract/2007 schedule. We cannot let this falter. I believe that this "hype" will help us get more students out of the dorms and into the stadium/arena in the next year.

This year I have tried very hard through student government to promote spirit on campus and re-kindle the electric atmosphere with the UNT Pit Crew (because a lot of seniors graduated and attendance was bad at the beginning of the season). I was just elected as Student Body Vice President for the 2007-2008 school year. One of my main platforms I ran on was "improving the student experience." This meaning a lot of things, but athletics falls under this. Athletics makes students feel a part of the campus!!! We should have more Mean Green signs on Game Day, Better Tailgating, Greek out the game nights, Giveaways...etc....I will be working with Rick Villareal, Paul Batchelder, & Jamie Adams to improve student turnout at games and promoting school pride on campus. We will also be hiring a paid position to promote athletics to the student body (SGA Director of Student Affairs).

Next year the pit crew will be bigger than ever! One of our goals is to market the pit crew to the dorms and all campus organizations. Hopefully we will get 2 crazy fans from each organization to come to games. Then we can have a guaranteed 100+ student section at games!

We had some amazing times this past year with the trip to New Orleans, the great men's basketball home winning streak, and the hiring of Todd Dodge

I believe that you will start to see the student body come together in the Fall and throughout this next year!

Proud to be MEAN GREEN!

I vote to ban the over-rated chant all together.. I thought it was stupid when we were chanting it at western kentucky, and it was even worst when we chanted it to memphis.. no more overrated chant please
