Cooley or Buford Julep, you may know the answer to this question. During Jesse Ratliff's time at NT, one of his high school teammates also signed with us. He was a guy that could jump out of the gym, but was not very consistent. Do you remember who I am talking about. The name Nunley seems familiar, but I am not sure if that is the correct name.

Yes it is this year's team. Shawnson was the best center, however I never understood giving him a two year ship for 1 semester of play.

Vic Trilli:

Jerome Rogers Pg

Lenard Hopkins G

Chris Davis G

Brandon Gilbert F

Brian Lucas C

Erskine was good enough to be one of the best at NT but transferring got him off my team. Kudos to Chris and Lenard for continuing to play for NT during/after the Trilli fiasco.

Tim Jankovich:

Tom Etchison PG

George King G

David Miller F

Adam Smith F

Sean Riley C

Jimmy Gales:

Deon Hunter PG

Ricky Robinson G

Jessie Ratliff F

Ronnie Morgan C

Tom Gipson C

Tommy Newman:

Deon Alexander PG

Glenroy Feguson G

Robbins could recruit; others that would have been on most other coaches all star teams: Fred Mitchell, Melvin Davis, Ken Williams

Joe Hamilton PG

Crest Whitaker G

Leroy Winfield F

Al Shumate F

Bill Cutter F

Coach Charlie Johnson

C- Willie Davis

F- John Savage - NT's all time best player

F- Ardie Dixon

G- Oscar Miller

G- Les Pollock

While at N in the early 60's I only dreamed if we could have gotten three other players from Texas who were playin in the Missouri Valley Conference we could have won it all. They were Nate Bowman and Dave Stallworth at Wichita and McCoy McLemore at Drake - all later played in the NBA.

Incidentall the coach who preceded Johnson was Pete SHANDS not Sands.

Isaac Hines was much much much better than Ben Bell. I am talking light years different.

My opinion was based on Bell's end of season play which he greatly escalated his game. Hines had a great junior year but not as good as a senior. Time will tell, but I look forward to Bell having a big senior season. Not sure what you base your opinion that Hines was even "one much better" than Bell.

Trilli

G James Rogers

G Leonard Hopkins

F Deginald Erskin

F Chris Davis

C Jason Miller

Hated to leave off: Brandon Gilbert

Jankovich

G Chad Elstun

G Ed Harvey

F David Miller

F Chuck Thrash

C Sean Riley

Hated to leave off: I struggled to recall the best to put on. Other than Miller and Riley, most were forgettable.

Gales

G Deon Hunter

G Donnell Hayden

F Jesse Ratlif

F Wendell Williams?

C Ronnie Morgan

Newman

G Deon Alexander

G William Smith

F Tony Worrell

F Anthony Boutte

C Paul Elkjer

Blakeley

G Weasel Johnson

G Jon Manning

F Kenneth Lyons

F Javan Dupree

C John Horrocks

Hated to leave off" David Vasher and Spud Webb. Yes, I know that Spud never did play at North Texas but he was recruited by Bill just before he left and Tommy Newman wouldn't honor the commitment. Webb got lucky. This list includes my favorite coach and my favorite player (Lyons).

Robbins Should I put a / Billy Tubbs?

G Earl King

G Danny Kaspar

F Bobby Iverson

F Fred Mitchell

C Terry Bailey

C Kenneth Williams

I couldn't choose between Bailey, perhaps the best offensive center that we've ever had, and Williams, the best rebounder and arguably the best defensive center.

Hated to leave off: Lurch Davis I was very close between Mitchell and Davis but I thought Mitchell was soooo smooth.

Henry Miller only had the one season and the only two recruits that I remember contributing were Herb Larkins and Ben Sayles.

Spika

G Joe Hamilton

G Crest Whitaker

F Al Shumate

F Leroy Winfield

C Eph McDaniel

I'll add Charlie Johnson and Pete Shands later because names like John Savage, Jim Mudd and Bud Hopkins are among the best in our history.
