Conference: Conference USA.

Record: 28-3 (16-0)

RPI: 7

How They Got In: By destroying teams that your little sister and four of her friends could beat. Wait, that's not what you meant, is it ...

Mascot. Officially, the Tigers. Unofficially, John Calipari. Iin 1914, a bunch of students decided to randomly scream, "We fight like Tigers!" and it just stuck. Really. There was a time in the 1920s, though, where they were called the "Teachers" or "Tutors." So much more creative.

Big Wins: Beat the hell out of Kentucky, beat Gonzaga by 1 on the road, a pretty impressive thing to do. Destroyed most everyone in Conference USA.

Notable Losses: Memphis was drubbed by both Arizona and Tennessee.

Player You Should Know: 6'6" guard Chris Douglas-Roberts is a pure scorer, and was unofficially the runner-up for C-USA Player of the Year. He averages over 15 a game.

Outlook: That's the million dollar question, sunshine. You see those big-name teams listed in the big wins and notable losses above? All but one of them was played in 2006 (the big Gonzaga win being the lone exception). No one really knows what to expect from Memphis. People who live in Conference-USA territory believe Memphis is one of the best teams in the country. People who live elsewhere think Memphis will be exposed when they play a team that has guys who are capable of growing chest hair.

For the record, at the time we were called the "Teachers" or "Tutors", we were a teachers college called West Tennessee Normal. The nickname "Tigers" wasn't made official until, I believe, the 1930's.

However, we are one of only two schools (LSU is the other one) who has a real live Tiger mascot.

Just a bit of useless trivia that I'm sure you could care less about. lol

Ha ha! You're a former teacher's college with mascot and nickname identity issues!

Finally, a rival we can relate to!

Interesting. UNT was originally Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute (can someone explain why "Normal" was used in teaching institutions?).

We also had a a 7:00 curfew for students.

We don't have a live mascot (no, Scrappy really doesn't count as he often looks like he is on prozac) but we were deeply saddened at the loss of our albino squirrel.
