Biggest Unt Basketball Win Ever

When we talk of the biggest football victory in UNT history, one game always comes up: the win over Tennessee. But is there a clear-cut favorite in basketball?

Three that come immediately to mind are from the Bill Blakely era: wins over SMU, Texas, and Rolando Blackman's Kansas State team (happy to say I was at all three of those). Any other suggestions?

And would a win over almost anyone in the NCAA tournament move to No. 1?

Four "biggest" wins come to mind.

In no particular order:

(1) i believe it was 1969 or 1970 against Cincinatti at the "Pit." Cinci was ranked pretty high that year and NT jumped all over the Bearcats and at one point was something like 25 - 5. Joe Hamilton era.

(2) that same year Bradley came to the "PIT." At that time ranked high in the top 20. NTSU beat them in double OT. Bradley eventually got beat in the NCAA Tourny by UCLA in the semifinals.

(3) Texas at the PIT in the late 80's when NT came back from about 15 points down in the last five minutes to win.

(4) 2007 conference championship win agaist Arkansas State.

Not that I was alive then, but it'd have to be a MVC game(like the ones euless mentioned), since that was one of the premiere leagues back then. If we upset a titan in the 1st round though, obviously that'd be #1. There have only been 4 #15's to win and no #16's. Either way it'd be a gigantic win.

I cant say the win vs. ASU is the biggest as I have not been around as most of the guys on this board....however I think for the crucial time period and circumstances....this might be the biggest. UNT is trying to make that transition of being a more national presence and I think this win has meant a lot when it comes to that because the media is bigger and more powerful than ever.

1. Championship out of nowhere this past week.

2. One of the most memorable games for me was the win over TAMU. It was right after the Bonfire tragedy and I remember a powerful moment of silence at the beginning of the game. The game was tight, there were quite a few Aggies in our house and a lot of GREEN. It was a memorable win.
