I say big dance because yes there are seedings and all that good stuff...its the most fair tournament....I mean its wild dreams here but UNT can honestly say that they have a shot to win the national championship just like Duke, NC, Florida, Ohio State and etc. Plus I think for the most part, the whole nation does value the smaller schools in the basketball tournament. I think thats because of the possible upset that can and do happen. I bet a lot of people dont even know that the NO Bowl even exists and/or the fact that NT went to 4 consecutive NO Bowls (even people in Texas and the DFW area) but at some point everybody will atleast know about NT being in the big dance.

Can't really gauge the impact this Dance year will have just yet. But since I am one of the few that attended both, the Dance in Salt Lake City in '88 and the '01 Bowl game, I have to say the '01 Bowl game simply because this is Texas, and football is so much bigger in Texas.

In '88 we went to the Dance and things were great for a few weeks afterwards. But 5 to 6 weeks into the football season 6 months later and all anyone could talk about in the media and on campus was the football team's success, beating Tech and Texas and ranked nationally in 1-AA etc. The '88 success was long forgotten until the midnight practice that fall. Then it came up a bit more. But, even then, we repeated as SLC champions and again hosted the tourney, and again made it to the final which was televised on ESPN like it was the previous year, and to my surprise the attendance was less than it was the previous year? Don't know why?

So to me, the Bowl game will possibly be bigger, but I may be simply splitting hairs, and like I said, judgement is still out on how this all will all play out until it's cooled off a bit.

FFR , your right Football is KING in Texas and always will be. In the long run your right the 1st NO Bowl will probably still stand out more than this year's NCAA bid.

What gets me the most excited though , is that we atleast have a chance. Just like Florida,UNC,Kansas the games will be have to played on the court and not in the polls. Will we will 6 in a row ? I probably had a better chance winning the Mega Millions , but at least there is a chance.

Say in football if we won our 1st 6 games next year , vs. OU , ARK , etc. Would we be ranked #1 at the end of the 6th week ?Not a chance. Even if we went undeafted next year in FB , there is no guarantee we would even get a BCS bowl bid.

If we win our next 6 BB games they will have no choice to crown us.

---It is been my observation that when low-ranked teams that get a win in the first round , they often get a win in the second round. They play a high ranked team first and once that survive that one the next one is a mid-ranked team so that often manage to pull that one off also. Once they make it to the "Sweet-16" things starting getting tough. Sometimes those high-ranked teams really aren't that good, just come from large conferences, and the lower ones (which often come from smaller conferences) are much better than expected.

Therefore "a" win --- might mean a likely two wins.

I think more often than not schools can only pull off one upset. There have been numerous schools that have gotten to the Sweet 16(or further), but the general MO is to win 1 game. I think it's because Coaches have nearly a week to prepare for that first high seed, but only about 36 hours to prepare for the second.
