“I just think it was one of those games where the refs let the game get real physical,” Banks said. “We had one of those games where you couldn’t look for the call, you had to go on. ...

“They pressured him into a lot of quick shots,” Nutt said. “They tried to muscle him and they got away with a lot of hacks, with a lot of hand checks, a lot of holding, and it wore him down. He spent a lot in the last couple of days, too.”

In the interest of full disclosure, the rest of the quote from Banks reads thusly:

"... But they did play good defense, I give them credit on that. We just didn’t execute on offense as well as we should have.”

Further down in the article, Nutt continues:

“When we did get some open looks, he (Banks) was rushed a little bit,” Nutt said. “They did a number on him. They had a good game plan. They really tried to ‘physical’ us and really tried to pay attention to him.”

If the refs aren't going to blow the whistle, players have to adjust their games accordingly...it's one of the oldest strategies in the game.

By the way, IMHO, the refs were calling stuff in the first half. I spent a lot of time in the chat room bemoaning the belief that our guys were not getting their money's worth on the foul calls, and should be fouling harder.

I thought the entire game was pretty physical, both ways. And I am glad the officials let them play. I thought we got away with a few obvious fouls, but I think they did as well. Crying over fouls at a neutral site is absurd. Sorry you weren't the better team.

They can't complain one bit as they outright had the larger people on the floor ,who spent much of the first half shoving their way around. If North Texas out-muscled them then that supports my original assesment of this game, that we outhustled and simply wanted the game more because we did not have any size advantage for sure.

Dickey Nutt looks like a guy who would try to sell you a used Pontiac at some lot in Grand Prairie.

Come on now, what is wrong with GP? Go Gophers:)

Of course, Dickey Nutt is bad, but so is Dick Speer. He was high school soccer coach at GP.
