Oh How Painful It Must Be

The one thing that I HATE about this board is everyones obsession with SM freakin U. We just won a Championship and are going to the Dance. But we not only go check out their board and find the one post about us that has what 6 comments and post it over here. WHY not focus on the win. Lets celebrate the win and the future and not look at what other colleges are thinking about us. Grow up.

When I went to college I thought I would always live close enough to support my school. And I always wondered why people from other colleges supported a school that they did not go to. Then I moved to Denton and thought I have got to support a local college. It is just to hard to attend events at mine. But reading posts full of jealousy makes it very difficult.

-- It is not jealosy.... It is resentment for all the hatred and bad things they have done to us and sasid about us all these years. I am tired of their arrogant hateful and dishonest comments in DMN and other places.... TCU (and others) has the same opinion of them as well. If you don't understand it, then you have not lived long enough....

UNT- 1966

I do agree on one thing... ignor those jerks... they are has-beens...

can we enjoy one victory without worrying about what SMU thinks?

No.

I admit it, it's a character flaw. I'll just have to lump it in with my other character flaws like staying up 24 hours to be in Lafayette, making every game humanly possible this year, living and dying with the Green, and being a part of the solution instead of bitching on the board 24/7 about our coach, our team or anything else. But yes, it is obvious that I devote all of my time to worrying about SMU isn't it? <_<

Pleasantly surprised at the kind words coming from Fort Worth. It strikes me how the two schools further south on I-35s can react so differently.

This is what happens when you are successful yourself and secure in what your school is doing. You can afford to be complimentary to others without feeling like it's damaging your ego.

pat yourself on the back, Emmitt. you have a job that enables you to make the road trip everyone else on this board would have liked to do if they didn't have minor obligations like paying bills, supporting families, taking tests, etc. You are truly the picture of what an NT fan should be. Again, a round of applause for THE North Texas fan.

Then what's the excuse for the low blows by TAMU on Texas Ags?? They are having a stellar season and might even face us in the first round. While there are a few good comments, several had to resort to the same tired, old insults.

thats not what I am talking about. I have a dozen things on my plate as well, and I imagine about 90% of the people on this board are in the same position. The difference is, I am not so self-righteous as to implicate myself being a fan above all others for being able to make the trip to Lafayette, then citing everything I do/have done for NT.

The constant worrying about what SMU thinks about us makes us look like we are the stepchild they claim. The "its not enough to be successful, everyone else must fail" mentality is yawn-worthy.

But then again, this is coming from Eagle1855 who isn't a "true" fan, or at least, hasn't drawn up a resume to show everyone what I have done for NT- but rest assured, Im working on it.

Oh and hurry over there, they just lost their conference opener...

now I do agree with you on this one, that was outstanding!

Gosh I am ever so sorry for ever implying that you are not a true fan. What can I ever do to make it up to you? I mean, seeing as I am clearly jobless, without other responsibilities and sit around all day just waiting for the next chance to go to a North Texas event I should have all the time in the world to build a...what did you call it, resume? And, no, making the trip to Lafayette doesn't make me a fan above all others. But I do appreciate the call for a round of applause...can we get another because I think I feel an encore coming on. Hell, I may even do showtunes...any requests?

In all seriousness, coming from a guy who grew up in Denton I'm happy to see any and all NT fans...even the non "true" ones. :clapping:

I asked why we always have to enjoy our success with a side of "what SMU is doing" and received tirade about everything you do for NT. Great. Like, I really do think it's great. We have an enormous student body that I wish had that kind of dedication. I just fail to see what it had to do with my original post in this thread.

Most of my post was merely melodramatic sarcasm to prove a point- which was that going to Lafayette has nothing to do with SMU. And I've yet to figure out why the association was made in the first place.

And if you are gonna do a show tune, something from the "Sound of Music" or "Oklahoma" would be nice... I'm a sucker for the classics.

I really don't have the vocal range for "16 going on 17" but I'll give "So Long, Farewell" a shot.

It's weird how some of the stuff we're fighting against is stated so "matter of factly" on that thread, rather than meant as a demeaning insult.

If you really want a dose of the stereotypes that UNT athletics is up against, they're in that thread. That might have been more painful for me to read than the junk they're saying on the SMU thread.

**edit

what am I saying? It IS more painful. The SMU talk didn't affect me at all.

That's some funny sheesh on the SMU board Emmitt. It's always great to see and read every time anything North Texas does becomes a thorn in SMU's side. Hatred for other schools is what makes a rivalry and I think we have a good foundation for one with them. This is the stuff that makes College Sports so great.

Thank God for Cops and Firefighters being able to get the time off for those more important things in life :D

My theory:

Folks in Ft. Worth (including the TCU campus) live a more carefree relaxed lifestyle. The absence of sticks up their bums like their University Park counterparts makes it easier for them to simply enjoy the success of a neighboring, yet rival school such as ourselves. I think the SMUt faithful simply buy those cute polo pony shirts a little too tight cutting off blood and oxygen to their cognac soaked brains. Ponyfans.com is the end result of such a sad wardrobe malfunction.

Or......maybe SMUt just sucks. :P:P:P
